Even after I say that I still wouldn't mind drafting him. Rotate these guys for years so they are fresh etc. sign Ziggy. Boom.

I get a hardon imagining him and Buckner in the middle. It would be like a video game.

For all of us getting wood imagining Smith next to Foster, the wood is there imagining Vea next to Buckner for me too. Those two alone would wreak absolute havoc man.

Lol. If only we had two firsts or a higher 2nd to move up lol.
This guy looks more explosive than Haloti Ngata

I agree. Buckner alone changes games. Imagine Vea next to him.
I wouldn't mind the Vea pick at all. It would require us singing Ansah in FA.

But I'd love taking Vea then Darius Leonard with our next pick.

Exactly man - I mean him and Buck basically means you are not going to run inside successfully much - if at all. On passing downs they would destroy the pocket.

Saleh could really scheme around them. Imagine him dropping back in coverage... You know the front office is thinking about this kid. I know its boring and whatever, but you can never have enough good lineman.

I will argue he may be a better choice over Smith tbh. He changes the defense. Imagine you are a C/G and you see Vea and Buck staring at you with a smile.....

I'm warming up to this idea more and more. Our d line would be formidable and one of the best in the league.

I agree with everyone on the Vea bandwagon,
but only IF we sign Ansah or someone like Robert Quinn/Justin Houston gets released and signed or traded for.

We get that terror off the edge and the inside combo of Buckner and Vea would be just too much for most offensive lines to handle.
We cant keep throwing draft picks and cash at the D-Line. A smart play caller can limit the success of a NT.
(see pats vs. Jags and Eagles).

We need offensive weapons (which includes O-line), outside pass rush, and help in the secondary.

The D-Line is fine and not worth using 1st round pick on AGAIN.

I agree with you, but if some of those needs get addressed through free agency, then it allows us to go ahead and grab the best player on the board at #9/10.

We have so much cap room that we might sign Ansah, Pugh, Jensen, Talib/Melvin/Fuller/Johnson/Breeland, and a lower tier WR like Moncrief and TE like Brate/Burton.

Filling a bunch of holes through free agency will determine how creative we are able to get with our draft picks. Basically you won't be able to rule out any possibilities.

The dline is okay but there is nothing wrong with strengthening a strength. We would have one of the best lines in the league. Not saying he's aaron Donald, but I'd love to have a monster like that next to Buckner to give us a truly dominant area on the team instead of being okay everywhere.

He's not Aaron Donald. He is Haloti Ngata. And in his prime Ngata was truly one of the best players in the league and a player offensive coaches had to game plan around.

I wasn't making the player comparison but a situation comparison. Having a dominant force on the interior is always good no matter what.

I know it's going to sound funny coming from me after my love affair with Sully but I think drafting a non pass rushing defensive lineman this year is a bad idea.

I'd love to have Vea on the roster but the reason I wanted Sully was his overall game and 2 years of less than impressive performances by Armstead.

I think we have 2 guys to build around in Buckner and Thomas. Hopefully Thomas takes the next step this offseason as a pass rusher so we get a well rounded player I imagined when we drafted him.

But investing so much into the DL without addressing the key pass rush would be a mistake. Yes it would be great to have an immovable inside DL and one that can push the pocket but we need that outside rusher to take this D to another level.

If an outside rusher isn't worth the pick then we're better off addressing other needs.

That's why everyone here has agreed that the caveat to drafting Vea is that we sign Ansah in the offseason.
