Harold Landry Boston College DE/OLB

Well, I mean, if you wanted Landry, he went #41 in a class without edge rushers, meaning you do think edge rushers are available at #20 (and even more so in a class with good edge rushers).
Titans gave 57 and 89 for 41
We gave 59 and 74 for 44 and 141

So we could have had him for sure. I like pettis. Definitely happy with what we've seen so far. But even if he ends up becoming a top 5 wr and Landry just becomes a top 15 pass rusher. He could've brought more value to us.

The difference between Goodwin/Garçon and Pettis ceiling(and present skill level) is wayyyyy different than the difference between marsh/attouchou and Landry's ceiling and (present skill level)

Pettis was more of a luxury pick while Landry was the final missing piece on d. Assuming the secondary turns out fine.

Drafting in the late rounds - is the difference generally between a good pass rusher and a great pass rusher (Aldon was drafted at #7) for example. I agree, I think the Pettis pick was a luxury pick. Kyle is good enough to get low round receivers and make them productive. It's different on defense. Defense needs talent. We missed out on Landry by just a couple of picks. I just think that if we would have nailed that edge rusher in the draft this draft cycle, we'd be more balanced. Right now we have an over abundance of WR's and a lack of real impact edge rushers. It may still work out, but I worry that our edge rushers on the team right now (barring any trade for a Kalil Mack like LEO) isn't going to get us into the playoffs at all. Or if we make it into the playoffs, we'll be one and done.
I also thought we should have drafted an ER or two, but you cant base your whole argument on us missing out on the elite talent level of a player who has never played a regular season game
Create a custom 49ers jersey
Man I wish we move up to steal him in Rd 2 like Tenn did. We would have had our Bruce Irvin at SAM
Rather have Pettis

dont think this is a playoff team with this defense. 8-8 at best. Which at least might bode well for us in terms of draft positioning next year.

I'd agree with you. But what still gives me hope is our offense will only be better. And the defense was worse last year. Our secondary isn't great, but last year was brutal.

And we still went 5-0 at the end(last game didn't mean much though). Beating two of the best four AFC teams in that span.

This is a playoff team so 49ers will not be drafting high next year.

Pettis looks like he's going to be a stud. Constantly open. I don't see a problem with how I feel.
Yikes, I hope the ankle he hurt isn't the same one from college.

I think so too, if everybody basically stays healthy. I don't know if we'll have any draft ammunition to move up to the top ten in 2019 unless they mortgage two years worth of draft picks to move up. Then again, maybe our current edge rushers might develop. Its still preseason, and there is still time for something to happen. Hope it does.
