Harold Landry Boston College DE/OLB

Oh, I still like Landry. He needs to be paired up with a good teacher. His ability to get off and bend around the arc is a great starting foundation. If a coach can active his hands and teach him to use an inside counter, Landry can become a devastating edge rusher.

Just don't agree with the Bruce Irvin comp.

very interested in how he does at the combine
Even if he doesn't ever realize his potential and remains a one-trick pony, Landy should find success in the NFL with that one-trick. He's going to feast on lunging tackles that have slow/lazy hands+feet.

Honestly tho, the guy was impressive a year ago... he can dominate a game when he wants to... then when he's no interested, he seems to just go w/whatever flow...

Pair him up w/ Tomsula

Sounds like he needs to at bare minimum master the Freeney and Mathis spin as a counter.

Picking Landry looks a lot nicer now that all the top pass rusher options in FA are off the table
Is he worthy of being drafted #9/10 overall or are we reaching for a need???

We could afford to trade down to the teens and still have a good shot of drafting him unless he kills it at the combine.

I'm not sure how much a good combine performance will help him. Sure he could display that he's even more explosive than expected, but I'm not sure that's ever really been in question. His biggest problem seems to be his motor. When he's on and fully engaged, he's a poor man's version of Von Miller, but when he's half *ssing it on the field, then he's easily blocked and not worth wasting a first round pick on. His big drop off compared to his 2016 season can't all be blamed on his injury either.

Arden Key is in the same boat. Both these guys should be top 15 picks, but their questionable effort will drop them if they can't erase teams concerns during their interviews.

Solid bend, gets off quick(just like me), versatile and can drop into coverage. The best athlete on the field in most games if not all.

Plays a prime position and possibly two positions of need for us. SAM on run downs, LEO on passing downs.

Haven't researched his character but have never heard anything bad. Was easily a first rounder after his monster 2016 but decided to stay another year so he could work on his craft. Says a lot about his willingness to get better.

Unless he's simply graded low or our staff feels there's a can't miss superstar, I don't see why not.

I don't get the comparison to Key. I don't blame a guy for not giving 100% playing on a bum ankle. If he was lazy he wouldn't play at all.

Key walked away from the team for who knows what reasons and has always shown inconsistency in his motor.

Landry didn't have problems when he wasn't hurting. If you're expecting a guy who goes 100% no matter what then you're going to take a lot of players off the board.

I think the issue for Landry is size and i'll be very curious what he measures in on. Also love to see his 10 yard split and cone and shuttle numbers...just would like to see the numbers match up to what I'm seeing from him.

I don't see Landry take plays off nearly as much as Key. Key looks like a star in one play then the next few just kinda disappears. I definitely don't see it happening so often that it's an issue but maybe nastastical saw something I didn't.

He might not ever be able to consistently rush from the left against nfl left tackles but he can for sure handle nfl right tackles . Could be like our vic/von

That's the thing I think that's perfect for what we need. I'm hoping Sully owns this offseason and comes back able to generate some serious pass rush from the big end spot in base but I think we have enough big end bullrush type of players who can at the very least push the left side of the OL back where the QB can't escape easily...speed rush from the RT side would be deadly. Either he gets him or the guys on the other side pounce from their side.
I feel like at 10 this guy would be an overdraft. But what do the experts think?
