Harold Landry Boston College DE/OLB

I agree with this, Landry could have been the situational (and a better one than we have) but he's not going to be the required stud.

One of my issues with this current crop (admittedly not having studied extensively yet) is there appears to be mostly this type of guy available. I'm not seeing many 3 down studs outside of Bosa.

As it stands I prefer Winovich over most of the perceived 1st rounders.

We actually don't need a 4 down player because we have enough extra DT's to play run-stopping LEO on early downs.

That said, Alson Smith was a situational rusher his first year too

If this is true, how come the 49ers haven't found one in, oh....about 4 years or so...
We've hit on a ton of DE's that can only manage 2 sacks a season...

Box score scouts are the worst...

Then i would steer clear of 90% of the threads here.

I can look at the boxscore today in a blowout and tell you that Landry had ZERO impact against the colts....

It's okay in year 1 & 2. When we have no real pass rush, an average player would help us greatly at this point.

I do.

Landry would certainly be better than Marsh (folks who dispute it off of sack numbers alone need to look at other metrics and watch the game), but we drafted Pettis before Landry and Warner after. Which player are you giving up to have Landry? Just gotta hope they nail it with to rookie edge rushers this year along with a free agent.

I think the point is that the 49ers actually gave up more to go get Pettis than the Titans did to get Landry, so the 49ers could have conceivable selected Landry, too.

Under what scenario would we have Pettis, Landry, and Warner? I would have loved Landry, but I just don't see us pulling it off.

You're right. Landry was 40th I think. I had Pettis in the mid 30s originally.
If Lynch doesn't trade down (still hope he will), then Allen's the guy to get in the 1st. In the 2nd rd, he should take Raekwon Davis. The middle of our defense is still way too soft...Buckner needs a real stud alongside him, then watch things improve.

Correct.

Who's more important today and going forward: Harold Landry or Dante Pettis.

Just a fun selection priority to watch going forward.

Wrong we drafted Pettis AFTER Landry so would've needed to give up either McGlinchey (no) or Pettis AND likely a 4th to have gotten Landry (questionable)
Still crying over spilled milk lmao

I think we are in agreement in that neither of us are willing to give up who we got to get Landry. I was saying are we packaging the draft spot we used to take Warner and Pettis to get Landry. I love all 3 of our first picks from 2018.
