I have no qualms about taking him at 9. Not only is he a great fit for the scheme, but his style of rushing is precisely what the pass rush is missing.

Middle, yes. Not late.
Pass rush need is too great in the NFL. Would imagine he goes top 16.

I'll take Smith or Landry no problem at #9.

Harold Landry's weight/40/3-cone = 252 lbs/4.65 40/6.88 3-cone

Only 2 EDGE defenders since 1987 of at least 250 pounds bested or tied both his 40 and 3-cone
Jordan Willis, 2017: 4.53/6.85
DeMarcus Ware, 2005: 4.65/6.85https://t.co/XEch9MhTge
What was Chubbs 3 cone time?

I'd trade to 12-13. Green Bay likely grabs him at 14 if he's there

Agreed that he's a good fit, but he needs to keep developing as a pass rusher or he'll be a one trick pony in the pros and not as effective as he should be.
I'll give him a pass for his 2017 season because of his injury because maybe I was wrong for questioning his motor/work ethic if his ankle prevented him from playing up to his potential, but he's healthy now and has no excuse to not regain or better his 2016 form. Many could make the argument that he would be a top 5 pick if he repeated his 2016 season with the combine numbers he just had.
I still wish we could pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd and move down a few spots before selecting him. This draft is filled with talent in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and we need to stock pile picks.

The question then becomes is it better to take Landry at #9 or trading down (to #17-21) for an additional second round selection and Davenport.

This.
What's to say another team trades up as soon as we pass him up knowing our desperate need for pass rushers? Makes no sense to risk losing him if we trade down.
Would hit our biggest/hardest to attain need given there's zero longterm solution for pass rusher in FA. Also don't anticipate to be drafting this high next couple years so means if we don't get pass rusher this year - we would have to trade up and mortgage future draft picks to fill our need.
All of our other needs (LB, CB, oline) are attainable via FA and later rounds in draft.

Starting to look like he is our guy. First round DL four years in a row it is. Funny how it seems to boil down to either having another 1st round DL or another 1st round LB. Nelson should be gone so it will be too early for another OL, the depth of WR and RB will allow talent to be there for a later pick, and I think we will be picking up a top corner in FA. The only wildcard left is D. James.
