Harold Landry Boston College DE/OLB

And we have no idea if he will be there.

I'll take Smith or Landry no problem at #9.

Agreed!!
This is the guy I have had us taking at 9 (or 10) for months.

Davenport is tempting with his size and potential. But I'd rather go with the guy who has shown it in the field.

If Chubb falls then great, we take him. If Barkley falls then sure, that's a no brainer. But barring any crazy surprises Landry is the guy that makes the most sense for us.

This.

What's to say another team trades up as soon as we pass him up knowing our desperate need for pass rushers? Makes no sense to risk losing him if we trade down.

Would hit our biggest/hardest to attain need given there's zero longterm solution for pass rusher in FA. Also don't anticipate to be drafting this high next couple years so means if we don't get pass rusher this year - we would have to trade up and mortgage future draft picks to fill our need.

All of our other needs (LB, CB, oline) are attainable via FA and later rounds in draft.

All depends on the value we get from moving back and where we have guys rated on the big board.

If Landry doesn't have a much higher grade than guys like Davenport, Vea, Edmunds, Smith, and others, then you take the trade back and accumulate more draft picks. Are we better with Landry by himself or Davenport and Okoronkwo?
Once mock drafts start putting him around 10, you're gonna see everyone saying we should take him. Mock drafts tend to dictate popular opinion.

Consensus was he was a 2nd going into the combine. His numbers are good but not Wow numbers. If anything he maybe snuck into late first. Taking him at 9 is epitome of reaching for need.

There were different opinions from different sites. The ones that had him going second round were because for some reason they couldn't tell he was quick from his game tape. And they thought he was undersized. Now he put that to rest with the combine. His skill wasn't ever really in question from what I saw.

It's a different situation than a guy who was graded low based off his tape, then blows up the combine and gets hyped up.

"Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College

Landry put up 16.5 sacks his junior year and then his production fell off a cliff after suffering through an ankle injury all year in 2017. He needed to shut up the doubters on Sunday by showing that he has the athleticism to be an elite edge defender at the next level. Landry did just that by posting a 4.64 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical jump, and 119-inch broad jump. The most important numbers come from the agility drills though. His 6.88 three cone and 4.19 20-yard shuttle puts him in the elite category of testers for pass rushers, and I think he solidified his status as a blue-chip, top 12 prospect in this class."

He is undersized. 6'2 252 with shorter than average arms. He's only going to fit 3-4 defenses or one like the 9ers where he can play LEO. I don't take him before the 20s.
Blue text over the athletic metrics that matter most for edge. He also had a 1.59 10-yard split.

Lol there will be some teams all over him after our pick. Pass rushers are so hard to come by nowadays. I could argue that he could be better than a lot of the pass rushers drafted in the 1st round last year.

Then they can have him. If the 9ers are taking a guy top 10 it needs to be a guy who has been consistent in his production. I wanna see someone who has an upward trajectory, not a guy who didn't show up for most of the season then got hurt.

Well that's BS. Go look a Vic Beasley and Ngakoue...identical size to them. Better numbers than Ngakoue and damn near the same as Beasley.
