Harold Landry Boston College DE/OLB

When i watch this kid on tape though he looks like a perfect 3-4 OLB but so did Barr and he fits nicely into the SAM role. I love how he takes on blocks, hold the point of attack, and disengage to get to the ball carrier. Reminds me of Aldon Smith's runstopping ability.

I think putting him at SAM and getting Ansah or D.Lawrence at LEO would set our D for being #1 in the future.

Alot of people have him falling to the last 16 picks of the 1st round. We have the ammo to back into the low 20s or late teens to pick him up

I think you'd want Landry at LEO so he isn't wasting his time stacking and fighting through tight ends. But he is a damn good fit at SAM.

BTW, Vikings play a completely different style of defense than we do. Their Sam LB is an off-ball player; ours is an on-ball player. What Barr does in their defense is closer to our Mike and Will.

thanks for the info. Cause i feel like Landry's pro comparison is Barr so i was trying to connect the dots. Im not very educated in schemes.

I would really like for us to jump back into the late 1st to pick this guy up, assuming we go with Rosen, Allen, or Barkley in the top 5

Mata'afa for LEO
Boston College senior DE Harold Landry did not play during Friday's loss (they won) to Florida State.

Boston College still won big, but this is an injury to monitor. Beat writers described Landry's ailment as an ankle injury. He was listed as probable heading into the contest.

Thx. Round projections?

Too early to tell, but I'd say right now 2-4. I doubt any of them go before Landry, but they certainly have potential to go late 1st depending on how they test athletically. There's also Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Marquis Haynes; smaller but tenacious speed pass rushers. I like all these names for pass rush, plus Clellin Ferrell. Then there's the obvious ones of Landry, Chubb, Key

Someone brought up Haines. Sounds like a good SAM for us.
It's becoming mock draft season. I really like Landry and think he's a great fit in this scheme, but not sure how I feel about him at two.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College

With the acquisition of Jimmy Garoppolo, the 49ers will have superstar running back Saquon Barkley mocked to them from now until draft weekend. Barkley looks like the best overall talent in this class, making that assumed selection understandable, but I'm not sold Kyle Shanahan will use the second pick that way due to positional value (they are prime trade-out candidates as well, for whatever it's worth).

Enter Harold Landry, who is in a dogfight to prove he's the best edge in this class against Bradley Chubb and Arden Key. With all of the premium picks the 49ers have used for the interior of their defensive line over the years, they need a true game changer on the outside. The senior Landry would provide that right away with his ability to bend around the corner, while Shanahan can continue to uncover gems at running back in later rounds.

Unless he blows up the combine I dont see him at 2
I'm still aboard the Harold Landry bandwagon, especially if we can trade back a couple of spots and grab some extra picks. I hope he kills the combine. While he may not be an elite prospect, his ability to bend is elite.
