Underrated / Overrated 2017 Draft

Some players I used to think were underrated are now rated about where they should be (like Corey Davis).

Underrated:

Trubisky. No reason he should go any lower than 1. He's going to be a great QB.

Charles Harris. 2nd-best pass rusher in the draft behind Myles.

Raekwon McMilan. He's projected in the 3rd round or so right now. That'd be excellent value.

Cam Robinson. Should be a top-5 pick.

Jarrad Davis. Love this guy. Solid player. He's going to be like David Harris or Zach Brown or any number of those 2nd-round ILBs who turn out to be great IMO.

JuJu Smith-Schuster. Should be a starter. Solid #2.

Carl Lawson. Why have people forgotten about this guy? He's everything you want in a player IMO. Maybe not elite, but if you can get a guy like this in the 3rd round or so, consider yourself lucky.

Elijah Hood. If you need a RB, he'll fill a hole. Borderline starter IMO.

Overrated:

Reuben Foster. Very good prospect; not quite as good as people think. Spoiled w/ that DL.

Derek Barnett. Good pass rusher; not great. Think Andre Carter.

Ethan Pocic C LSU. Nothing special about this guy IMO. Seems like a guy who should go in the 5th or 6th. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.

Agree on almost all of this, biggest disagreement being Trubisky. Most agree with Jarrad Davis and Raekwon McMillan
Underrated: Carl Lawson - The most technical edge rusher of all the top guys. Best hands. Great get first step. Lawson plays with good pad level, strength, and pliability around the corner. Dude is underrated as hell.

Overrated: Leonard Fournette - Doesn't possess the lateral agility, patience, or vision to be considered "generational." He has a lot of trouble re-starting from a complete stop. If you make him stop his feet, he's so f**ked. I think he could go from overrated to the "b" word if he ends up in the wrong scheme.

Underrated
Malik Hooker

Overrated
Anyone we take at 2 besides Garret and see above
Would love to get Davis in the second but don't see him escaping the first. Absolute ball hound.
Underrated:

RB Wayne Gallman, Clemson: Great all around threat and would be a great addition alongside Hyde in our Offense. Love Gallman in the 3rd.

WR Chris Godwin, PSU: Stud WR I like out of Penn State (produced Allen Robinson & many others) good day 2 WR prospect sleeper I like. Wide catch radius as well.

RB Marlon Mack, USF: Stud athlete and better football player love him possibly in day 2 I see a lot of Tevin Coleman in him...

WR Arderius Stewart, Bama: Great athlete and put up quiet but good numbers on a supremely talented team. Would like him in round 4 or 5 but not my main WR choice for us.

LB Raekwon Mcmillan: Agree with you on him he's a stud. Like his strength and tackling ability also seems to have speed as well. Would love him next to Bo.

WR Damore'ea Stringfellow, Ole Miss: Top recruit who didn't pan out as well in College but a good athlete and has all the tools to be a stud receiver find in the 6th round possibly.

DL Carl Lawson, AU: Good pass rusher out of Auburn who needs to stay on the field but has the most potential of any on day 2.

S Eddie Jackson, Bama: Such a stud at Bama guy plays with a great intensity and is extra skilled. Would like him on our team and Eric Reid gone... Lol
(Also, S Justin Evans, TAMU is a stud I like on day 2)

Overrated:

QB: Patrick Mahomes, TTU: I really don't see what everyone else see's in Mahomes. Don't really like his decision making and think he just throws it up there a lot of the time. I see the tools but I really don't know if he's all there... Scares me.

WR Amara Darboh, UM: No crazy hype over him but don't really see much in him. Don't think we'll get him but who knows. All I know is I'll take a lot of other guys over him in this draft.

RB Alvin Kamara, Tenn: Solid athlete but didn't really like his numbers in college... not a huge guy either. Could turn out to be a stud though. We'll see.

QB, Nathan Peterman: Pitt: Don't really like his arm or game... Seems pretty average to me and a backup in the NFL but could be a Hoyer type guy or Matt Barkley who knows...

Not much overrated to me the quarterbacks aren't too hot but I see possibly 3 starters in Trubisky, Watson, then Mahomes/Kizer. WR's aren't too deep but I like Williams and Davis a lot. Didn't speak much on defense but its very deep and I like the safetie's the most in this draft. Anxious to see what we do with the #2 pick

I think he may be the most underrated in the draft
Overrated:

Reuben Foster (LB)
Underrated:
QB Trubisky - Very good player who should be a top 10 pick but is not seen by many as one.

RB McCaffrey - He should be a top 15 pick because he can do it all.

WR Switzer - He's a reliable pass catcher who also provide value as a returner.

WR Cupp - He has a speed problem but aside from that he's great. Can be a No. 3 receiver from day 1.

LB McMilan - Good LB who should be an early 2nd round pick for sure.

LB Zack Cunningham - He will make a great 43 OLB in the NFL.

Overrated:
QB Mahones - He has all the tools to succeed in the future but his floor is low.

CB Lattimore - He is good but he's not not a top 5 pick to me.

S Hooker - He's good but he's not a top 5 pick to me. He's talented but raw. Missed more than 10 tackles this season(I have read between 14 and 19).
Doesn't overrated/underrated depend on where they go in draft?

All the mock drafts/big boards is mostly guess work.
Good post and fun!

Totally agree on Charles Harris - IMO, this guy is going to light it up

Also, TJ Watt will be a steal if he falls to the 2nd.
You're wrong about Barnett and Robinson. Barnett whipped the floor with Robinson when they played each other.

True but they are somewhat close come draft day. Not counting trades though.
Underrated: Leonard Fournette

Then which mock draft/big board are we using to say X player is overrated/underrated?

Using NFL's grades and just their top 32 grades:

Overrated:
Mitch Tribusky - No way is a QB in top 10 talent this year. They may go Top 10, but in terms of talent there isn't a QB

Sidney Jones - Personally, I'm not impressed by his game. Not sure what everyone is so in love with. He will get eaten up by stronger physical WRs

Rueben Foster - I don't see a 1st round ILB grade for him. I think he is over rated, easy too look good roaming around as a LB surrounded with NFL talent

Haason Reddick - The first guy IMO this year to benefit from the hype train. I don't think he can play edge, and instead he will be 4-3 OLB or 3-4 ILB, and at that position he will be a development project.

Alvin Kamara - They gave him a 1st round grade, and the #3 RB. He is a guy that flashed potential but did not deliver on a consistent level. I don't think he is a natural RB, and I don't think he will do well running between the tackles. I think he will be a situational player, not a 3 down back. I think his agility and potential as a reciever out of the backfield is promising, but I'd rather take McCaffrey. And him being a 1st round talent? I dont see it

Underrated:

Patrick Mahomes - I still believe he is the top QB prospect

Budda Baker - A bit undersized, but he has elite playmaking ability

Jordan Willis - NFL gave him a 5.6, which is very low on their scale. Guy is a late 1st, early 2nd talent

Witherspoon - Wow, I'm late to the party but this guy is impressive. For a 6'3 corner that has that fluid of hips, an NFL team will be drooling over his potential

Tankersley - another corner I really like, boundry corner that has a good chance to be a ballhawk at the next level
