Sam Darnold

I'm kinda hating the Dumervil signing right now. I don't think it makes us that much better, but adding veterans makes it less likely we'll wind up getting our franchise QB (hopefully Allen, Darnold, or Rosen). We should be in full on tank mode like the Jets right now.

Hopefully the rationale for bringing in Dumervil was that he can teach some of our younger guys how to rush the passer. He's obviously been able to overcome physical limitations (size/length) to be a successful pass rusher, so hopefully his work ethic/skill level transfers over to some of our younger guys like Eli Harold.

Well said. I have no doubt that Dumervil still has a little bit left in his tank if he's used as a situational rusher, which he will be. Your last paragraph touches on my feelings well. The young bucks could stand to learn a lot from Dumervil.
We winning 6-7 games so we ain't getting darnold

Not according to Vegas...

We have as good a shot as anyone (except for maybe the Jets) at landing the #1 pick. Odds are we don't get it, but it's way too early to say we have no shot at a top draft pick.

Woah there, sparky. Let's see if they can win at least 1 game before we start using the phrase "top-tier."

I think the Jets got #1 on lock, especially after McCown gets hurt and they have to play this f**king guy at QB.

It makes me happy to see number one overall pick discussed in this thread

I've been watching the NFL for nearly 30 years and I've never seen a team give up like the Jets have before the season even starts. Unless there's a couple of bad weather games when their D-Line destroys the other team's O i cannot see how they'll win a game.

Browns last year. They let a ton of players walk in free agency even though they had the cap room to sign them. They did decide to trade for Jamie Collins in the middle of the season which I thought was a bizarre move and out of character with tanking.

I don't think we're that much more talented than the Jets right now. We chose not to bring in free agents other than a few vets who can teach our system for a reason. Jets are probably favorites for the #1 pick right now, but we're not that far behind.

I could so see Todd Bowles taking the fall for this too. Nobody and I mean nobody could win with what is left on that roster.

Yeah, their defense is meh. On offense though, it's just pathetic what they have going into the season.
I hope he becomes the 9ers staring QB. It's time to finally correct all our Qb drafting failures of the past two decades.

If Rosen's shoulder is OK and both he and Darnald leave... and the 49ers suck bad... they may have a chance at one of them. But honestly, even with the Frankenstein roster... I see the 49ers drafting between 8 and 16. and I don't see either being there by that pick
