He's exciting to watch that's for sure. Gonna make amazing plays but gonna throw some wild ones every once in a while.

Ahhh yeas.

I see another Jay Cutler.

I'd take another Jay Cutler any day of the week at this point.

the mistakes he makes are so coachable

i think he has the toal package

he would be a solid pickup
To a degree, everything is coachable.

Unfortunately, most things are uncoachable at this point in an athlete's career. The odds of Darnold's egregious throwing mechanics drastically improving are slim to none. A lifetime's worth of bad motor patterns are ingrained so deep into his nervous system that it's nearly impossible to overcome them. Not to mention that they're only being further reinforced in each game he plays.

This is why Kap couldn't change his mechanics no matter how much time he invested during the offseason. He's trying to amend 25+ years of bad motor patterns in a couple months. It's not happening. When the bullets fly, humans revert back to what is natural for their individual nervous system.

Luckily, it's a non-issue for us. I see no scenario where we draft Sam Darnold. Not only is Sam's style of quarterbacking a departure from Kyle's QB archetype, but I can't see Kyle wanting to draft a guy he has to re-teach to throw before he can begin learning his offense.

Quick question when was the last time UCLA had a successful NFL quarterback again? That i recall that was Aikman back in 88'

same can be said for USC
Problem is ALL the mentioned USC QBs were supposed to be the next best thing since slice bread.... And all but one couldn't even keep backup jobs... I'll take my chances on the QB that has the better shot at being a descent NFL QB...but hell look at Luck... Nobody knows how any of these kids pan out but Darnold seems to fit the USC bill.

Aaron Rodgers fixed his mechanics but he had the benefit of sitting behind Favre until he was ready. A team that drafts Darnold will want return on investment by year 2.
Since when does playing at a certain school determine how a player will perform at the next level? I can agree his throwing mechincs need work but because he's playing at USC we shouldn't draft him. That's like saying well we shouldn't get Saquan Barkley from Penn State cause Larry Johnson only had 1 good year as a pro.

The only thing Aaron Rodgers fixed was his carriage point. He held the ball unnaturally high in college, a minor undertaking to remedy.

Darnold needs his entire lower body and upper body reworked.

He just has a large frame. Dude was built to be a DE or TE. I can see him hitting 245-250 without much trouble.
