Signing Jimmy would be smarter.

NE is not letting him get away.

They'll have 17 mil in cap space. Have to cut people just to get enough to franchise tag. Would they let Malcolm Butler leave just to keep Jimmy?

They were ready to trade Butler away this past offseason. I think they end up getting it done.

If they do then Jimmy isn't the kind of QB I'd want then. Any QB satisfied with riding pine for 5 years isn't legit. Want a guy who wants to start.

Pats need to rethink letting defensive players walk. Their unit isn't very talented.
I don't think his mechanics are THAT bad, he just doesn't stay in the pocket very often. He's a shifty QB that makes a lot of plays after the defense gets penetration.

Darnold would be a better prospect on a team with a poor o-line (compared to Rosen) but if he goes to a team with a very structured passing game requiring a pure pocket passer I don't think he'd do as well. Rosen is simply a better fit for Shanahan.

I don't see Darnold being an elite field general in the NFL right out of the gates. More like a Carson Wentz with potential to play like Big Ben down the line (if he refines his pocket game) or perhaps a large Russ Wilson type QB but he doesn't have Wilsons speed in small spaces so he'd be better off learning to stay in the pocket in the NFL.

He needs to work on his mechanics and staying in the pocket- playing within the offense as designed. Whoever drafts him will probably work on that before he starts or they'll craft an offense with a lot of roll outs, bootlegs etc. He rolls right frequently. If I'm a D coordinator I'd try to take the right side of the field away.

I'd take Darnold if Rosen is gone but I'd want him to sit for at least half a season learning behind a journeyman pocket passer. A full season would be better. Hoyer might be a good bridge QB for that scenerio.

Darnold looking as over rated as Rosen and Jackson

Well, he was the second best QB on the field last nite...unfortunately, Ehlinger didn't look fantastic, and Darnold does not look like a guy who is declaring forNFL next yr. And Cousins had a bad outing last week, but did look better this week. Neither looks Ike a FR QB at present.
Is there anyway he can sign with the niners now ?

Not exactly the kind of comments I'd want to hear about the guy I'm drafting to be the face of the franchise.

He has some other good qualities, but I think I'd pass on this guy at the top of the round. Waste your money on Kirk if you want a "meh" QB.

I agree, rosen seems like a Shanahan QB the most. Of course, I have never interviewed him.

I think Darnold is the #1 QB prospect thus far. Other than that, I agree with what you're saying.
This is a great twitter thread that highlights why it's difficult to evaluate this guy.

Maybe, Darnold has the proper mechanics, and everyone else has been doing it wrong
One game closer to him?
