Sam Darnold

But Josh Allen?? if we pick him in the first round I would be livid. I grade him as a 3rd rounder that will probably get inflated to the 1st due to his position and potential.

What you don't want to wait 3 years to see if that 1st round pick on Allen was worth it. I bet Allen tips up preseason though. He will tear that s**t up for sure

I don't think he's declaring.

He probably won't if Cleveland has the #1 pick

He was a true freshman last season...only 20 this year. He seems to be level headed and understands he needs more seasoning. He's also already gone on record saying teams shouldn't tank for hm.
He doesn't impress me. Doesn't jump out at me like he's gonna be amazing. Hope I'm wrong if Niners pick him.
Kiper/McShay breakdown of Darnold.

Kiper: Let's start with the interceptions. Darnold has already matched last year's total of nine -- in only six games. The number is concerning, especially when one of his strengths in 2016 was his supreme accuracy. But I think it's also misleading, even though his mechanics get a little sloppy at times. What do you think, Todd?

McShay: I'm not concerned about Darnold's picks. Several were well-thrown balls that simply bounced off his receivers' hands. I still have questions about his mechanics and his three-quarter launch spot, but his accuracy has been tremendous from what I've seen on tape. I also love Darnold's ability to manipulate the pocket and keep his eyes downfield, and he does a terrific job of going through his progressions.

Kiper: USC's offensive line has also been subpar and had some injuries. The losses of Zach Banner and Damien Mama have been significant. You can see that Darnold is trying to make plays when they're not there, and he just needs to throw the ball away. But that's no excuse -- Darnold just has to be more consistent. He has the arm talent, athleticism, size (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) and makeup of a top-tier quarterback.

McShay: He was No. 1 on my Top 32 heading into the season, and he has remained there throughout. He'll be just fine.

Kiper: He's still No. 1 on my board, too, and I think he'll be right there next spring.

Where Darnold projects in the draft

Kiper: Top five.

McShay: Top five.

Kid oozes intangibles and is loaded with physical talent. I hope he goes back to college because outside of injury at this point it's not about being a top draft pick that's going to be a given but rather being ready enough to succeed in the NFL from day 1.

Two of the worst talent evaluators.

I just don't get it. It's as if ESPN doesn't want to admit that they were wrong to hype Darnold all off season. That they got caught under in the hype.

They'd better upgrade that OL then lol

He was a redshirt freshman last season, otherwise he would not be eligible for this year's draft.

He needs another year as half of this one is trash due to crap play calling, wrong receivers starting, and offensive line snafu's. He has not developed as we would have liked.

With that said, somebody will pick him in the first... A lot of QB hungry teams... Arizona would love to sit him for a couple of years with the hopes he takes over a la Aaron Rodgers.

He's gonna be the 1st pick in the draft if he goes. I don't see the pt of playing another yr in college. Just another chance at getting injured and not getting paid.

I think he'd learn more about playing in the NFL by playing in the NFL.

I'm in agreement. I'm an SC guy and would flat out tell him to leave unless he really enjoys the college experience.

So Darnold 1 and Rosen goes 2 to us. I'm on board.

He may very well return. But the "needs more seasoning" logic won't matter much if he's given a top 5 grade -- which appears very likely.

Matt Barkley went back, and it was the worst decision he made in his career. If he's widely considered a top pick he SHOULD come out. Money is money.
