I think a Minkah/Key combo would be pretty good. Nobody is going to look to Key for leadership regardless of his productivity if Minkah, Sherman and Buckner are on the defense. For those concerned about potential off field incidents... no issue taking on that risk in late round 2 pick.

If we go DB first then Key. I'd be happy with either Minkah Fitzpatrick or Derwin James

When key is giving it 100 percent. He's a big time game changer. Even against good competition. That can't be denied. I always liked his tape. He did take many plays off though. Good thing is that he's only be expected to play obvious passing situations. He could definitely keep it 100 percent if playing a lower snap count

Whether we take him or not -- this stuff is easily vetted by an experienced coaching staff.

Agreed. Maybe they feel he has a higher ceiling than Landry. Patriots coach was saying Landry has had really solid coaching at BC. Could be taken like he's closer to his ceiling already.

at least key hasn't had any red flags with the law right? his red flags are similar to williams in terms of does he wanna be great? I'm getting a little nervous in how much lynch is giving this guy attention. I hope everyone views him as a late day 2, early day 3 pick cause i would be okay picking him at that range.

Posters also said Solomon Thomas was the next big thing. Whoops. What does it matter? This entire draft -- every single pick -- is a complete toss up. Key is going round two at the earliest only because of his character concerns. The risk factor is baked into his draft stock. If we miss, we miss. If we don't, we don't.

Why? People will still show up to games. The team will still be competitive and in playoff contention. The Niners will still be flush with cash. The team still has nearly all of its key players under long term deals.
The "problem children" on this team is literally one dude. And he may not even be on the roster. Again, Key wouldn't be drafted by us in the 1st round. So, what does it matter? Late 2nd round picks are complete wildcards. Even the choir boys.
I'm not advocating for Key (though I'm okay with it in the 2nd/3rd). I'm taking issue with the logic in these "can't have another problem child" statement.

cause lynch talked about the culture he wants and having players you can be proud of. To be fair he did reel it back and said you can't field a team of choir boys and i am glad he acknowledges that. That said, i'm not a huge fan of key, but if we draft him and he gives us stud production and he's a little bit of a character, i'll be more than okay with that.

I realize we're still in the honeymoon phase with Lynch and any criticism is often quickly dismissed. But, he's lying. Just like all the other GMs.
If this was even 10% true he would have cut Foster the second he was arrested. And, if not then, the second the DA brought charges.
John Lynch does not care about having players "he can be proud of". He just wants to win. And I agree with the way he's doing it.
The only time GMs care about off field incidents is when the long term distraction outweighs the long term potential. That's it. If that equation is not satisfied they'll just placate internet mad fans with a "we're monitoring..." tweet and let them all renew their season tickets when they're done throwing their fan tantrum.

oh no i absolutely agree with you. I'm fine with how lynch is operating things. GMs gamble all the time. look at the eagles, they traded for 2 players that got in trouble with the law before any otas started. i'm probably just thinking inside the webzone bubble and don't wanna deal with the negative nancies if we draft another red flag player
