His NFL comparison is Chris long. That's probably a pretty damn good one and I'll admit I haven't watched a full game of chubb. I've just read a s**t ton and heard of a lil discussions on projections etc.. But see that's what I kinda think in my head, Chris long was a damn solid 3 down player.. But he was never GREAT in all capitals as far as pass rushing goes.

So, do we REALLY NEED that? I dunno, my gut says no and take Landry who SEEMS to have the higher ceiling as a pure pass rusher. You know, when we need it most on 3rd downs We already have personnel for a solid base package IMO.

Feel free and jump in anyone, thought this is a good post for people to help chime in with thoughts... Would love to hear guys opinion who have watched tape on him, like atleast two games would be cool lol.

My thoughts are, if we get Chubb (very low probability of that) with Solomon Thomas at 3-tech, that still would be a very formidable pass rush combo. Keep in mind we have Pita still on the team and by all reports he's hes developing nicely. He's kind of like a very raw Landry last year that's why he went in the 6th round. If we have Pita coming off the right edge and Buckner, Solomon and Chubb rounding off all the other pass rush positions, I think that is a top pass rush line right there. Draft experts, please correct me if I'm off base.

Yeah it's really hard to think about what our staff sees in Pita and Jimmie Gilbert.

Pita and Gilbert - I agree, they are huge development picks. The potential is there (after reading their scouting reports) but until they get on the field that's all theory. What the 49ers see in either of them is a guess and your guess is going to be better than mine, that's for sure. But I'm hoping Pita can show something in pre-season to justify him staying on the team, that way he'll add possible LEO depth to Cassius and Attauchu, and possibly at the SAM position too. We shall see...

I think if you look at the guys they've brought in to be true edge guys..,(Gilbert/Elvis/pita/Marsh/Jeremiah) there all kinda the same size.

Just another reason why I think Landry fits the bill.
I think if he falls to the 6th pick the colts would listen and the 9th and 2 3rd round picks, 1 next year get it done to trade up..would be very very difficult to pass up..
surely the Colts need him more than anyone ?

Landry does fit the bill. He really is what this defense needs. Been looking a bit at Chubb and Davenport, and I think Chubb is an overkill at DE. Love to have him, but most likely won't be there. But Chubb kind of duplicates what Solomon and Buckner do in a run defense sense. As folks have stated, our base defense is good. It's the pass rush that's a concern. Davenport is all bull rush with some hand fighting and edge rushing - like you said - very raw, and probably will take a year or two to really get up to speed.

I wish Landry was 10 pounds heavier and keeps his speed and agility, but then I suspect he'd be going before Chubb. With folks saying this is one of the weaker pass rush draft classes, I'm even contemplating trading down the #9 pick, get extra picks - get two raw edge rushers in the later rounds to develop, and go for a top elite edge rusher next year with the extra picks you get this year. I don't like that option, but if Chubb and Landry are gone, I'm thinking Davenport won't be any better than a 2nd round more polished edge rusher in my opinion.
Great 49ers gift ideas

Belicheat is going to trade for him in about 3 or 4 years.

How much of Chubb's sacks were because of his teammates?

NC State has a handful of defensive linemen who may be drafted - DE Bradley Chubb (Rd 1 projection), DT BJ Hill (Rd 4-5), DT Justin Jones (Rd 6), and DE Kentavious Street (Rd 7)

I have a feeling this is the guy that drops in the draft and he could be available for us at 9...

If he's there at 6 or 7 we should seriously consider trading up for him

This is a weak class for edge rushers and I have a hard time seeing why either Indy or Tampa would want to move back 2 spots when they both have a need for a pass rusher.

I mean if Chubb is there at 9 run up and hand in the card can't see SF moving up for him unless we overpay and they need their picks.

If we can move down and get Landry even better, I'm fine taking him at 9 end of the day. If Landry is gone some how, say hello to raquon smith lol.

If Roquan is gone somehow, say hello to Harold Landy lol. Fixed it for ya
