I don't think we take Nelson even if he's available. Shanny doesn't put a high value on guard. Its either Landry or Roquan, maybe Minkah if Lynch falls in love these next several days.
Finding a true LEO is the biggest need for the team in the near future, but i think Roquan would be greater for the long run. Wouldnt mind both choices. Wouldnt be upset with Nelson too, although i dont think will happen. All the other options will be a little disappointing, aside from obvious surprises.

Taylor was a fifth round pick. Slight difference between that and taking a guy top 10. You take a guy top 10 you're counting on him to be a cornerstone player not just insurance.

Smith is the no-brainer at 9. Him and Foster together for the next 10 years - we'll be set. Not to mention that Smith would be a good mentor to Foster. Too good to be true if you ask me.

Drafting based on "but if's" isn't enough reason.

Where as Reuben is going to be in trouble with the league and injury history is present. His situations are evident.

I'd rather have that opportunity of having Both a guy like Roquon and Foster on the field at the same time, when or if that time came.

With Gurley and D Johnson in the division, plus chasing around Russell Wilson still, Roquon covers both sides of the field where as a guard or Leo at #9 doesn't solve those main issues of other teams threats.
Whether that be a Roquon or a Minkah, need a dynamic playmaker in the middle of the field, to cover all sides of the field vs the threats in our division. Gotta win our division games.
Guard doesn't solve our issues on stopping the stars in our division.

A Leo doesn't solve our issues at stopping the stars in our division.

Those two positions are tied to only specific things of contribution, which don't solve the rushing attacks we'll face.

You stop gurley, you win.

You stop Johnson, you win.

You contain Wilson, you win.

Next year's draft looks loaded for DE/Leo's brick by brick but Smith would be the pick because he's a leader something this team needs on the defense

Exactly, we're not going to get this think built in one year. Like you said - brick by brick.

1. Suh, and aaron donald arent stars? Plus, you know whats the best way to contain gurley, johnson and wilson? Be able to run the ball and keep them off the field. A guard helps with that.
2. a fast speed rusher against the seawhawks terrible offensive line can't help you win? Bill Walsh said a pass rusher was the second most component of a team outside of the Qb. As good as roquan it would be easier to find players similar to him in later rounds than a speed rusher. Considering the rams have a good passing game on top of their running attack I believe having a superior pass rush will help with that. Harder to run the ball on 2nd and 3rd and long after a sack.

There is plenty of talented players. To talk as though a will linebacker is the only position that can help us at this point is ridiculous. Telvin smith was a 5th rounder, Lavonte david was a second rounder, Devondlre campbell was a fourth rounder and kj wright was a fourth rounder. Don't get me wrong, I would be totally fine with having Roquan, but it's not like a Will can't be found somewhere else.

I'm not saying stopping Gurley and Johnson isn't important but you can't seriously say that it's so clearly more important than having a guy that can sack their QB. They're both important.

So youre advocating sitting him when Reuben and Roquan are healthy? That would seem like a huge waste of money considering we signed him to a 5 year deal

Absolutely. Can't let Malcom smith stop us from grabbing a player if we think that player can be a cornerstone for years to come lol.

In my comparison, kerley, Malcolm , and Kilgore are the insurance players until you find someone better (Taylor, Roquan, richburg)

Trent Baalke should agree. Potential is important, but useless if they never hit the field.

No, it's not a valid criticism.

Here's every time an offensive lineman got out on Ray Lewis in the 2003 AFC Wild Card game:

Oh yeah, and Lewis made 17 tackles in this game, and he didn't shed a block on a single one of them.
