Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

Aside being the best LB in the draft, I think Lynch and Shanahan (Sorry guys I hate using the word ShanaLynch) will love the leadership qualities, work ethic and the humble person that Roquan Smith is. Those IMO, are pretty important qualities when taking someone in the top 10 let alone 1st round.

Stop with that davenport stuff lol

i saw that video on NFL network with L Rhodes, MJD & James Jones. They were all cracking up, then someone off screen, unexpectedly, threw a large stuffed dog at them and J Jones must have jumped a foot in the air.LOL. Funniest episode I've seen in awhile.

And what about Colbert? The dude shows tons of promise. It would be a waste if we put him at safety without giving him another year.

With that type of logic, we should also draft a qb too.

Hey I'm not the one that sent a D-line coach to work him out!!!

Again, this is not what I want just what I'm predicting.

I hear ya bud but depth is key in this league and we have seen how important that is. Plus we have a few FA's next year in the secondary.

Colbert would be the primary backup at bot FS and SS. He did show a ton of promise but we have to remember that he's still a 7th round pick and if we take Minkah for that position it would be an upgrade.

I know you tried there but your comp was actually illogical. We just paid Jimmy a ton of money to be a franchise QB. Not comparable at all to Colbert. No major holes on this team so every spot would be an "upgrade".

You don't think our lack of a pass rusher is a major hole? I do have confidence that Attoauchu will suprise but still. Guard is also a question mark for me but I wouldn't call it a major hole there

No one really worth the #9 overall pick, maybe they think Davenport but Roquan Smith is much more valuable to the team than Davenport. IMO

You could get pretty much the same value in Okoronkwo, Holland, Sweat, Ejiofor, Tyquan Lewis and Rasheem Green to name a few. You're not getting the same thing like Roquan Smith in the later rounds. The only one I think that's close to him is Rashaan Evans, but he should be long gone before the 9ers pick in the 2nd.

We don't know Minkah can play the single high at the same level as Colbert, that's why Minkah is a huge question mark. He's a jack of all trades but master of none. He played very little snaps at corner so when people assume he'll fit right in, its naive thinking. The same can be said for single high safety. Most of his tape is either nickel or SS.

To me, picking MInkah for FS is just as much as a projection as picking Davenport. But still, at least Davenport played the position full time.

I wouldn't call a nickel rusher a major hole but I think finding a full time LEO is the biggest need.

If they're taking Landry in the first round they don't envision him as simply a 3rd down rusher....pretty straight forward there.

I actually agree with this but I would trust the assessment of Lynch on if Minkah would project well as a single high S.

He may also move to nickel CB or LB with Colbert coming in at FS on passing downs or in Cover 2 sets the look could be Minkah/Colbert.

To be clear I would lean towards Davenport over Minkah as well.

Lol, bringing up Derrick Brooks name in this thread triggered a few individuals.

Yeah people got so defensive as if Brooks wasn't "to small to play linebacker in the NFL" when he was coming out. Even Brooks said he was expecting to be moved to safety.
