Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

I'll take whoever the better player is. Don't reach for a guy simply due to position. That is how you wind up with busts.

If Roquan is clearly the best rated player, draft him. If Landry is the highest rated, draft him.

This defense has so many holes that you can't afford to be super picky. Get the guy you think has the best shot at being an All Pro level player and let the chips fall where they may.

See I think both are gonna be very good players at the next level. If you got Smith rated as your 5th overall prospect and Landry as say your 8th then ya I'm gonna look at impact position along with depth at LBer vs pass rusher.

Depends on how the team has them ranked along with guys like Fitzpatrick, James, Edmunds...etc

I hope they take whoever the best player on their board is and if that means they hold off on edge rusher for a year, I can make peace with that. However they approach it there will likely be sizable holes that need to be addressed next season.

Yeah I'm fine with that approach as well. I do think you need to look at depth of position draft to draft...imo I think there a lot of good LBers and CBs in this draft. Edge not so much.

I don't really think with what happened today with foster changes much. Foster playing this yr (or ever again) is a bonus more than anything. That's why I wasn't high on him last yr smh.
Roquan at #9 is where BPA meets fit. Last year our rush defense still ranked #22 in the NFL with Reuben. In a division with David Johnson and Gurley playing great defense starts with stopping the run.

All the more reason to not reach. Anytime a draft is weak in one area, it seems like a bunch of guys get bumped way higher than they rightfully should be going. Look at Kolton Miller and the talk about him being a potential 1st rounder in a crappy draft for tackles. I'm all for going with what the strength of the draft is. This year its CB, LB, RB and interior OL. Load up in those areas, take advantage of the depth instead of reaching for guys that might otherwise be 4th or 5th rounders but find themselves as potential 2nd or 3rd rounders due to supply/demand.

Our run D improved a ton towards the end of the yr (I believe we were top 7 in YPC) scoring pts and getting guys like Thomas rolling helped with that. Teams were running all day when we had Hoyer and CJ constantly going 3 and out on us.

We were still 30th in the league at stopping 3rd down conversions.

I don't think edge is weak at the top...I do think the drop off is massive. I also think LBer and DB is much more deep.

We will see

We need that #7 for the whole year, even improve to top 3 if possible. Make the opponent's offense one dimensional. Roquan will make sure there is no dropoff.
I agree with NY. We need an elite edge rusher, and it is very difficult to find these special players in round 2 and 3.

Doesn't mean we should reach that much. But positional value is something that really matters.

I don't know if we can find a good LB in round 2 and 3, but I'd rather them try and do that and settle with a good EDGE in round 1.

Love Smith. But if trade down is an option, Wouldn't mind LVE and Evans. Okoronkwo in the 2nd.

If they could Evans+LVE that would be turning a frown upside down.
Yes sir! Get Corbett and Meeks in the third and that would make up for this crappy news of today.

Oops! Meant to say LVE OR Evans on a trade down Phoenix. Waste and dumb of using high draft picks on same position.I'm perfectly be happy with Smith ,Landry or a trade down with one of these 2 and it should go a long way in solidifying our D.

I would take both if they could manage it. Evans at MLB, LVE at weakside, that would be a LB corps with a ton of potential.
Landry is a perfect scheme fit and for an edge rusher I don't think you want to pass that up.

I'd be fine with Davenport, Roquan or Edmunds too.

This!! With so many holes I really don't see how we can go wrong at 9. We should be looking at a handful of guys they targeted. But agreed teams get all caught up And reach.
