Edge rush is important, but stopping the run is a higher priority. He has to be the pick if available.

By the same token, this class is deeper at LB'er than it is at edge rusher. Could opt to grab a LB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Brick by brick next year's Edge rusher class is a lot better than this year's no need to reach just for need IMO

If they feel Landry or Davenport are worth the 9th pick then I could see waiting to address LB'er later.

Their rookie year, I only see them in on situational downs. Roquan I can see plugging in and starting day 1 (and kicking ass)

if Roquan is gone by 9 , we should grab Edmunds if he is there , but still look for another ILB before the 5th round , we need a solid core of LBs to strengthen our run defense , Mike McCray from Michigan could be a solid piece to groom for future action, it's a mystery how long Foster will be gone , and we dont know if Malcolm smith can contribute after being out for a whole season

Assuming Chubb/Barkley/Nelson/Minkah are off the board... it's hard to make a case for the Niners to stay put at #9 IF a trade back in the top 15 is available.

One of Landry/Edmunds/Smith/Ward/Davenport is guaranteed to be there in those spots. You'd have to have some pretty bias decision making if you would pass up the opportunity for additional high quality picks in this draft to stay put.

Can get pass rush AND another starter. Or, get Reuben's replacement AND another starter.

Lamar Jackson is the wildcard for the Niners.
Never a doubt in my mind. Roquan stands alone in this class.

Roquan is a beast and a leader. I think he's the pick. Does he play WILL and maybe Malcolm Smith and Coyle battle it out at MIKE? Or is Roquan going to be the Deion Jones of this defense?

I'd rather have someone that can do what Roquan can with his awareness and leadership. Then someone taller and heavier that may one day be able to do all the things that Roquan already can.

If the 49ers draft Roquan, he'll learn both spots. Saleh has all the LBs learn Mike and Will. He'll get his chance in camp and preseason to take the job.

But I'd prefer he starts at Will to assimilate to the NFL game speed before they throw more on his plate.

Not even a question IMO. Roquan is a way better player, you're basically hoping Edmunds turns into Brian Urlacher but he's too raw.
If there's a run at QBs early, how likely would it be that we trade back to 15, pick up Roquan, use the picks we get to move up in the late 1st/early 2nd, and pick up Landry?

Soo....about that pass rusher.....
Ive been working on a mock for a few days now. I tried to mock us Landry and just cant do it. For 1 simple fact.

As of right now, who's wearing that green dot? Is malcolm smith a 3 down player? This draft has decent coverage backers but are they 3 down players? Can Defo be a green dot guy?

Unless we trade down and grab LVE or Evans Smith almost has to be the guy. We need a 3 down green dot player.

Coyle will have the green dot more than likely to start out the season (had it last yr) he's been in this system for 4 yrs now. There's good LBers in this draft. Smith is 1B for me.
