Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

If you re-read what you just said how can he be 1B? (Unless you have Edmunds as 1A)

"Coyle will have the green dot" should be all you need to hear to remove the B.

I have landry as 1A...I'll pass on Edmunds thank you.

Was Coyle complete trash last yr? I thought he played better than expected (hence the 3 yrs $8.4 million dollar contract).

He's not the LT answer and for sure can be upgraded, I wouldn't be shocked if he's the day 1 starter at MIKE. Like I said he's KNOWS the scheme, which is what you want from someone with the green dot more than anything. I wouldn't be shocked if the rotate players based on the package.

There's a ton of good LBers in this draft, there really is. IF Smith is the pick I'm cool with it, whatever happen to Foster shouldn't change how they made their draft board regardless. They have known he wasn't gonna be here this season for a while and didn't touch anyone in FA.

We will see

Will be severely disappointed if he's there at 9 and we don't take him....so pretty much like every other draft the last several years

Rated poor 70th LB. And i mean tbe eye test to me back that up. Wasnt he our special team ace? That and knowing the offense is really only reason for the signinh.

Rotating the communicator of the defense. Doesnt sound like pretty good strategy to me. But maybe it happens more than i realize

I agree a ton of good coverage LB'S will be available but would they be on the field the whole time or are we again playing musical helmets?

We will see

We shall indeed

no he wasn't our ST ace...you're mixing up your white LBers. You mean defense and yes that's important and a reason they brought in Toomer. I mean if you're gonna go off PFF (like you did with Coyle) might as well say we have a starter with Toomer who was the 21st overall LBer. Ranked higher than guys like McKinney, Campbell, Davis, Thompson Ragland etc...

Go look at the Jags last yr they had Posluszny in on running plays mainly this yr. Also you don't know if a guy like Smith automatically becomes the communicator yr one anyway. He's still a rookie learning a whole new scheme.

That's why you have scouts and guys like Peters working their asses off all yr, not every position requires a 1st rd talent in order to have success there.

I keep reading that the Niners will not alter their draft plans based upon the news about Reuben Foster. But come on, let's all agree that Reuben will not be easy to replace and yes we do have to alter our plans.

I think Roquan will be the pick. It just makes too much sense. He's 100% plug and play, is a solid character guy and he fills a (new) need.

Book it!

Go look at the teams that run this defense and how many 1st rd picks were spent on their LBers...zero

We need scheme fit guys which this draft is full of IMO.

No way SF was counting on Foster playing this yr even before the news from Thursday.

That's not true. The 49ers spent a first-round pick on a LB.

31st...squeaked it in there.

All I'm saying is there's talent at LBer in this draft. Gotta trust our scouts/peters to find that talent. If it's smith so be it, wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't.

I got this feeling it's gonna be Fitz if there and I hate it

The problem is that the more teams move onto our scheme the higher the value these scheme fit LB's become. It's what happened with the 3-4 pass rusher, the value gets bumped up.

As you've stated many times this scheme needs a pass rush, however it also needs athletic and savvy LB's. I know you say there's depth, but none of the others are anywhere near as good as Roquan.

This is going to be straight up best player available, and I think that will be Roquan.
