Kollman is very good, but he can get over dramatic, he even acknowledges it, watch the Isaiah Oliver film, he even says you can call it click bait, but he's CB1.

I like to do it as well, if you're making a point outside the consensus, then do it loudly and proudly.

He describes Roquan's issues with blocks, the same as he described Jimmy's deep ball. They are both the weakest parts of their otherwise unworldly games, and both are perfectly explainable and fixable, but you can make them a big deal just to look smart.

The problem is that the more teams move onto our scheme the higher the value these scheme fit LB's become. It's what happened with the 3-4 pass rusher, the value gets bumped up.

As you've stated many times this scheme needs a pass rush, however it also needs athletic and savvy LB's. I know you say there's depth, but none of the others are anywhere near as good as Roquan.

This is going to be straight up best player available, and I think that will be Roquan.

That's fair and to a point I agree smaller/quicker LBers are starting to become the norm. I wouldn't be upset one bit if he's the pick BUT I still think there is enough talent at LBer overall to justify taking one later vs Smith at 9.

I don't see every single LBer prospect that's a scheme fit for us being gone by the time we draft from 59-74
Smith is a great young player, but if Foster wasn't an idiot we would probably pass on him and add a edge rusher, or elite DB.

Now we need to draft him, if he's available, our line backing core is pretty slim.

The whole "he can't take on blockers" stuff got so exaggerated. Blockers have to be able to get their hands on him and if a 300+ pound offensive lineman gets their hands on a 230 to 260lb LB, the majority of the time the OL is going to win.

Its about being able to dart through the trash and avoid blockers, something Willis excelled at, while Roquan is as good at it as any LB in this draft class.

That same argument can be applied to Landry, there are pass rushers in that area as well.

Straight up best player has to be applied in this situation, no positional value, no need bias. We need both, we can't have both, pick the best one.

I totally disagree, It's no even close to the same as far as quality of depth goes at pass rush vs LBer in this draft.

I also disagree that you have to BPA at 9...I think you have to mesh in BPA, positional value, and need not one over the other.

We will find out in 9 days

At this point I would say that Smith is the odds-on favorite at #9, with Minkah and Landry in the mix.
If Niners pass on Smith at #9 (there is a chance that he could be off the board by then), a trade down is the next option to eventually end up with another pick in mid to upper RD2. Only non QB I see having a chance to slipping to #9 is Nelson, but I just don't see him getting by the Bears at #8.
Niners first 2 picks will be defense - either LB & Edge or CB & Edge.

The LB class is much better between 10-35, LVE, Edmunds, Evans, but after that the pass rush class is as good IMO.

The issue for us is it will be very hard to pick Landry, and then go and get one of the above. So you'd really be looking at

Darius Leonard, Malik Jefferson, Fred Warner, Gerald Avery and Josey Jewell

VS

Obo, Josh Sweat, Arden Key, Duke Ejiofor, Jeff Holland and Kemoko Turay

My preferred strategy is BPA at #9, then double dip two of the above at a position you didn't address, if you end up taking a different position (Nelson please) I'd double dip at both.

EDIT missed Baker, O'Daniel and my man Shaq Griffen for LB's so yeah it's deeper.

You can have up to 30 Pre-draft visits. Obviously you can't draft them all.
