If he's there I would think that they would have to go Smith at 9. Tough to swallow but thanks a lot Foster. Maybe we could trade back into the first round to pick off a pass rusher????

There aren't really any pass rushers worthy in that sort of range IMO.
Forget Foster, forget needing a pass rusher, pick the best player.

Landry has a high ceiling obviously, but is far more of a risk than Smith imo. I say this simply trying to value the pick at 9 etc.

Far more of a risk? Every player has some sort of risk tied to them. If we want to go completely safe then draft Fitz, IMO he's not gonna fail in this league but doesn't play a premium position.
I think Landry and smith are two of the more safer prospects in this draft and ideal fits for this scheme, from there edge gets the advantage over LBer and the depth at LBer helps with making the decision.
I don't know, we'll find out in a week...just praying we don't go awol and draft davenport or some s**t

Are you scared of judging them equally? You used need as the big reason to take Landry, now it seems that Foster is done and LB is as big of a need you say positional value, and depth of the LB class.
Is that because deep down you know that Roquan is the better player?

Roquan is probably a better player. He's more versatile, a tremendous leader, and athletic as hell. Makes great reads, shows astute instincts, fantastic in coverage - he's what we want from a iLB.
However, Roquan doesn't play Edge. He plays iLB. We can find LBs at many levels in this draft and free agency.
Guess what we can't find in free agency (like, ever) nor in many levels of this draft? Edge.
Add in positional value ( Edge >>> most everything else).
Add in scheme fit. If you design a Leo from scratch, you end up with someone that looks a lot like Landry.
I'm good with both. But the "edge" goes to Landry.

lol, I think coming out, right now, Smith is the better player. Simple as that.
But I am with you guys, i really don't mind either, but I am obviously leaning Roquan. I definitely would take either over Edmunds or Davenport. Minkah and James are the not so sexy but obviously solid picks.

What are you talking about scared lol....I'm using need, BPA, impact of position, depth of position (in this draft), fit, and of course talent to come up with who I think they should draft (which end of the day doesn't mean anything, same as you and everyone else in here).
You use the word" it seems" but he's still on the team until he's not.
IMO edge is more important plain and simple. Landry is good at getting to the QB, something we were piss poor at last yr (and we also lost our top pass rusher). SF was damn near last in the league at getting off the field on 3rd downs. Do you think they've improved at that in FA? I don't.
There isn't jack s**t at EDGE in this draft outside of the top couple prospects. I think there are some real solid prospects that could play the WILL position (which is where I see Smith) Our DC is a former LB coach and I'd expect him to find someone much like most teams that run this defense have. IF he feels it's Smith so be it, I'll be happy as hell.

I don't even know what this mean dude. I think there both very good players. BOTH have positives and negatives. I STATED OVER AND OVER I would have no issue what so ever if Smith is the pick, BUT I value pass rusher more and Landry is very good at that.
Difference of opinions.

yup, you won't find me hating on Smith or b***hing about his inability to constantly shed blocks. I think he's a damn fine player, a need, and a scheme fit. I do think edge is probably the second most important position in the NFL and we currently have a bag of dog s**t at the position.
would love either player in SF

Here's my evaluation of Roquan Smith. As I have said on radio shows, there's not much mystery to his game on tape. He's one of the best prospects in this draft class, and I am curious to see where he gets drafted. pic.twitter.com/QETuMmrSIg

I've seen some recent mocks that have Smith going before the 9th pick. I think it is likely he will be there though.

I don't believe any of those mocks - I still think he makes it to #9, no problem.
