Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

However, Roquan doesn't play Edge. He plays iLB. We can find LBs at many levels in this draft and free agency.

Guess what we can't find in free agency (like, ever) nor in many levels of this draft? Edge.

Add in positional value ( Edge >>> most everything else).

Add in scheme fit. If you design a Leo from scratch, you end up with someone that looks a lot like Landry.

I'm good with both. But the "edge" goes to Landry.

yup, you won't find me hating on Smith or b***hing about his inability to constantly shed blocks. I think he's a damn fine player, a need, and a scheme fit. I do think edge is probably the second most important position in the NFL and we currently have a bag of dog s**t at the position.

would love either player in SF

Yeah I'd snatch up Landry in a heartbeat @9. He's gonna be good I think.

Name the last really good LB who changed teams in their prime?

I have no problem with Landry, he just isn't as good as Roquan.

The easiest way to attack this defences is with quick passes, an elite hook defender, who can pattern match, is as important as an edge rusher, just isn't as sexy.

Besides, our interior rush is elite (well will be) so edge just has to be pretty good.

had they not paid croyl starter money, i'd say it was a sure bet we're going Smith. But I think they'll go edge rusher instead and hope Croyld and M.Smith work out.

So there's isn't any coverage LBers in this draft? I thought we had fine interior pass rush last yr, we couldn't get s**t on the edge and it showed. Landry helps that interior pass rush get home.

They paid a good chunk of change to Malcom smith and he's gonna earn it this yr.

Meh, not like Smith is the only ILB in this draft that can beat Coyle for the starting job. In fact even dude from the Chargers will send Coyle to the bench

When did we pay Croyle starters money?

He got paid special teamer money, what are you talking about? He's getting less than $3 million a year average.

They basically paid Brock a 1 yr $3 million dollar deal.

Of course there are, just like there are other pass rushers, they're just not as good as the guys at #9.

Malcolm Smith was a band aid and you know it, he's no better than Attachou or Cassius Marsh.

Plus people keep banging on that you can't find an edge rusher anywhere but the draft, however Vinny Curry, JPP and Robert Quinn changed teams this year, who was the best LB?

They are both big needs, I just want to get the best players we can.

The pass rush prospects in this draft aren't even remotely close to the depth at LBer.

They didn't pay Malcom smith like a band aid and you know it. How much did he get paid vs Marsh attachou...you're wrong there. (whether we like it or not). He's a starter this yr.

Those guys changed teams why because they're amazing lol? JPP and half a hand (who was grossly overpaid), Curry and his 3 sacks last yr, and Quinn and his constant injuries...you know what they all have in common? Absurd contracts and yet teams are STILL willing to pay AND give up draft capital because pass rush is that damn important.

Poslunzy, London Fletcher, Jaime Collins, Alonzo, Harris, Vilma. Probably have been more, but those are the ones so can remember.

I'd throw Willis in there too. The team was completely lost on defense before he got here, and his passion was infectious.
