Both Smith and Edmunds have their flaws. Edmunds is younger so some of it can be attributed to youth.
Edmunds also has played 400 more snaps than Roquan.

About a year. Roquan is 21, Edmunds will be 20 in a couple weeks.

Mayock, Cosell and several others have Roquan as a Top 5 prospect in this draft. If the 49ers get him or Fitzpatrick they are doing very well.
1. ROQUAN SMITH, Georgia (6-1, 234, 4.53, 1): Third-year junior. "Plays the game the right way," one scout said. "Smart as hell. Plays his ass off. Fast. Space guy, just flies around. Real instinctive. Just little and kind of straight-line fast. Not as explosive as Ryan Shazier. Not a take-on type guy. In the modern game he'll fit in well." Another scout said he was better than Atlanta's Deion Jones. "He's probably more explosive than (Tremaine) Edmunds but can't carry as much range," he said. "He's country. He is an articulate, smart, driven person." Out of Montezuma, Ga. "He's a ball-playing Jesus," a third scout said. "He can run, he can hit, he can cover. He can run the defense. If you can live with him being 6-foot tall you're going to have yourself a really good player. He's got zone instincts and awareness. Only thing you don't like about the kid is his height. Look at the size of tight ends and wide receivers, and he has to try and cover those guys?"

Fitzpatrick to me doesn't really have a position, seems like a jack of all trades but master of none. I like Ward he seems like a good athletic corner.
9. San Francisco 49ers — LB Roquan Smith, Georgia
The 49ers really have no choice if Smith is on the board. They can't depend on Reuben Foster any more; he may or may not be on the team for the foreseeable future. Smith is not only a stud player, he is a premium character guy from scouts I've spoken with. He's everything the 49ers are looking for in a player. And he can also really play.
If Foster is somehow able to clear his name, Smith can easily line up next to Foster in this defense playing either linebacker spot — strong or weak. That would give the 49ers potentially the best young linebacker duo in the NFL. This is basically a no-brainer pick for me.
