Minkah Fitzpatrick - CB/S, Alabama

I brought it up because you said he isn't good. The awards given to him is for the BEST defensive back and BEST defensive player in all of college football. Nowhere did I say that means he's a future NFL superstar

So you want the spend a top 10 pick on someone who won't be a superstar? I said he wasn't good cause I don't see him being good in the pros. He's been good in college I don't think he was the best defensive player or defensive back though.

We still have to dish out cash for vets too i'd like for us to go after these dudes in the offseason pricey or not i think they are worth the price

Trumaine Johnson
Malcolm Butler
Kyle Fuller
Bashaud Breeland

I say we go with Quenton Nelson & just sign a couple of free agents CB's instead of taking Minkah

I'd much rather do that

He's better than any CB on our roster and it's not close. Having said that, I wouldn't use our 1st pick on him personally

No I wouldn't. But you and I both don't know if he will be good in the pros let alone a superstar.

Not a fan personally....I would rather have a vet on the other side. At some point we will have to pay all of these higher end defensive drsft picks. IMO I'm doing whatever I can to move down get a OL

As appealing as it sounds, none of those guys will make it to the market. They are just too valuable to their current teams.

In this passing league, the most valuable players are: 1a - ER, 1b - shut down CB. I don't see an ER that is worth a top 5 pick but Fitz looks like he is.

Why not? Johnson is gonna hit FA cause the team isn't gonna tag him again. NE just gave Gilmore a 5 yr $65 million dollar contract, you think they double down and give both CBs top end money? I don't.

Fuller almost got cut before the season, I don't see them tagging him after one productive season.

and D.C has a long list of good upcoming FAs http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/washington-redskins/ and they gotta pay Kirk.

I don't see all of these guys staying on their current teams at all.

Fitz to me is a safety over a "shut down" CB and we don't need another safety

Watch the A&m game. He shadowed Kirk for a good portion of the game. Outside & in the slot. Kirk finished with 4 catches for 52 yds & 1 td. When matched up with Fitzpatrick he got him once on a beautiful move for a 25 yd gain, but that was about it. Fitz held him to two catches for 32 yds.
It's all there on the tapes. you can look at his sophomore year, but he's crushed it this year, and improved so much you have NFL GM's foaming at the mouth. Not sure if any of you all watch the CBS college game day during the midweek when Brian Jones & Rick Neuheisel broke down game film on this guy? Did anyone watch the post Heisman show?
2016 his soph year 66 tackles with seven passes broken up and six interceptions all while playing CB & Safety. showed his versatility here. He's a prototype free safety in this day and age, in which he can drop over slot and play man, or play pro off-hash, or roam as center fielder. Good size, speed, athletic ability, high football IQ, play-maker. Would be an instant upgrade.

Christian Kirk hasn't done much of anything vs anyone this yr so that's not really a huge accomplishment IMO

Out of everything he just listed out... that's your criticism? haha

Welp he has a full paragraph about it and imo Kirk hasn't done much so I don't see the pt in bringing it up...the rest was about winning the Thorpe award, guess what jimmy ward was a finalist in that a couple yrs ago. Who cares?

Basically he's saying he's a prototypical FS and we don't need another safety, especially spending a top 10 pick on one. Just about every FS we put back there this yr had played well. Unless he's a lockdown outside CB I'm not drafting him there.

From what I am seeing I agree - this guy is a lockdown corner? First I have heard of it tbh.

Colbert changes things so I do not see the worth in drafting him at Safety. No reason to spend a top 5-10 pick on safety now.

If the dude was Deion at CB id sprint that ticket up to the podium, i don't see it.

Yeah I'd rather see Colbert get a full offseason at FS...Seems like the FO/coaching staff has been preaching it doesn't matter where you were drafted or what you did before, if you play well here you'll get your chance.

IMO this would go against that thinking (sorry Colbert you played well, but you're still a low draft pick and are being replaced by a 1st rd pick).

Like you said if he was a shutdown outside CB, I'd be much more amped up at the idea of drafting him....I'd still like to tackle CB in FA and draft a developmental CB.
I like this kid, but don't wanna spend a 1st on him. Would rather see us go O-line or WR with our 1st rounder.
