A lot of the top WRs have not run shuttles and cone times. So, Brown's 6.89 is another check mark for me. He plays at a top level inside, outside, has an NFL body, runs very good routes, can run the full route tree effectively. He's pretty good.
I feel the exact same way. We need a reliable high volume guy that can play outside and inside.
I'm tired of people saying hes just a slot guy. He played slot because they had DK on the outside. When DK went down, he showed he could play outside as well.
Besides catching the ball, I really like the idea of him in the slot on running plays cracking down on an end or backer. He's built like a tank.
He is a beast with the ball in his hands. People keep wanting to use the JuJu or Boldin comp, but the guy he reminds me of most is Golden Tate. I also keep thinking back to an interview of AJB where the reporter asked him what sets him apart from other receivers. He replied, "I'm run like a man when I got the ball in my hands." Or something along those lines. As much as a solid running game opens up the deep throws, teams will have to compensate for his YAC by shading defenders his way in the short to intermediate zone, be auce if Brown catches the ball on a comeback or 5 yard out, hes likely to either run over a smaller DB or juke a bigger less agile one.
He didnt have the best QB throwing him the ball either, and didn't run a full route tree in the offense he was in, but he has not given us any reason to believe he cant.
He is the perfect compliment to Pettis and they both can play inside and out. We still have Goodwin who can take the top off defense as well, and he can play outside or inside in our 3 we sets. We needed a bigger redzone guy and we picked up Jordan Matthews. Not to mention we still have one of the best and fastest tight ends inthe game, whom is probably going to see some double coverage until we get another reliable threat outside.
Brown has been durable as well. While not flashy, he is a dependable stud that was consistent with a shaky QB. Immagine under Shannahans tutelage in this offense how easily we will be able to scheme him open. Our route trees create seoperation. Guys like Butler have catching issues. Metcalf is limited by a lack of agility and injury. If youre questioning Browns speed and separation, you have to dismiss Harry as well. That leaves Campbell as my 2nd best. We haven't seen him run a ton of routes, but thats ohio st offense. Look at mike thomas in the Saints. Then Isabella whom I feel is a reach in the 2nd, due to size, competition, and I feel like he has too many body catches. I like him in the 3d tho. Both him and Campbell fill that gadget role.
Overall, Brown is our best fit and my top guy. I just hope he falls to us, but I doubt he makes it out of the 20s. We may need to trade up if we want him.
