That's probably the best way to maximize his abilities.

I agree, but would you spend a top 10 pick on a SAM who might not rush well? I'm thinking of Aaron Curry here...

When he sees a play he makes it, the problem is he flat out whiffs on a lot of plays because he doesn't appear to understand where it is going. You can find big plays that happened for the offense because he blew the assignment on an almost game by game basis.

Perfectly said.
I wouldn't hate the pick just not crazy about it.
I would think his instincts improve but there's no guarantee he got away with some of it in collage because of his extreme athleticism

Nope. Just stating what helps me feel better about it if we do take him. Harold IS the SAM who does not rush well lol

Nervous chatter in here picking up.
If we take him it's not to be Sam long term. He'd be like Miles Jack in Jax who played Sam until Poz retired. Edmunds would take over for Smith down the road.

I missed this GT game. They threw tons of cheese at VT and Edmunds. Some plays he looks solid, others he's completely lost. He struggled with contact balance and a lot of time on the ground in this game. That's a little disconcerting.

Which is why its baffling to me that ppl say we need to go Edmunds because Roquon cant stack and shed.

Is he coachable, and just due to his immaturity? Or does he lack good football sense ?

Very coachable, great character guy apparently. People rave about his work ethic.

None of that is the issue, I think he's a guy who can develop into a solid if not pretty good player, especially if you put him at the weakside but I don't see someone that will be a consistent Pro Bowler/All Pro....etc. You don't spontaneously develop football instincts and he's had more snaps in college than most of his contemporaries in the draft and is still quite a ways behind them in terms of showing consistent recognition and awareness out on the field.

So yeah, he's younger but has played more football than guys like LVE, Roquan and Evans. I think he can do a very good job playing SAM as a rookie and then hopefully develop into a high quality weakside LB but he's still very much a work in progress and will be for awhile.

Malcom smith stayed today that WILL/MIKE are interchangeable in this scheme why wouldn't edmunds like WILL if that's the case?

I don't see him as a SAM

Agreed just cause a guy has the build of outside rusher doesn't mean they're gonna be a good pass rusher.
