Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio St(The Politics Free Thread)

If we get Bosa all the red flags about his health will be true, if we pass on him he'll proceed to have a hall of fame career. Pretty simple

Same as last year. If same record and SOS = coin toss.

Do any sites predict end of season sos for each team?
Chance to earn the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, per Football Outsiders:

1. 49ers - 43.7%
2. Cardinals - 29.5%
3. Raiders - 21.5%

I saw Phoenix stat that some people view him as a guard...he's got little arms. I do agree he's polished as far as technique goes. He's athletic and a great fit. He's not quite the mauler in the run game like MM.

I doubt Joe retires this off season, he's got another yr left in his deal and I wouldn't be shocked if they try to give him another extension (add a yr).

I wouldn't be pissed just bummed that we go say 3-13 just to get another tackle. I just don't see it happening honestly.

Imo if Bosa has red flags or whatever they will try to move down at all costs. Then it's fair game on who they go after because they need a lot of things.

Didn't we draft Mcglinchey to eventually take over for Staley? If so, a RT can be had in FA or later in the draft. We also signed that guy Coleman to compete if Mcglinchey moves over. I would love a Williams and Mcglinchey tackle combo, but we need to fix that defense with the Edge as being the most important need. Bosa, Allen, Polite... this team needs one of them!

The team is hoping that they can coach Shon Coleman up so that he can slide into that RT spot after Staley moves on.

Anyone who considers permanently moving Jonah Williams inside should be fired. He's athletic, has clean technique and a workaholic with A+ character. If our front office and KS fell in love with McGlinchey because of these traits, then Williams is going to have them excited as ever as the draft nears. He's the type of tackle you want in this scheme and locker room. Hell if McGlinchey were in the 2019 draft, Williams would be firmly ahead of him as a prospect and I love how Mike looks right now.

If Joe Staley retires, I expect him to be selected by us, whether Bosa is on the board or not. If Joe comes back, then things will really get interesting on draft day. Bosa would most likely be our pick if we have #1OA, but if any red flags pop up like bad medicals, I expect Williams to leap frog him on our draft board because he's that good of a prospect.

Bosa is an elite prospect and deserving of the hype, but priorities change when it comes to protecting your franchise QB who is going to already be coming off a knee injury. If Joe hangs em up, taking Williams is a must and while it sucks, edge might have to wait or be addressed through free agency or later in the draft.

As a long-standing supporter of getting and keeping the strongest possible O line, I find myself in the strange position of disagreeing with you.

One point at a time. If we take Williams and Staley doesn't opt to retire - and I see nothing to suggest he will - you don't want Williams on the inside for a year? I want our 1st overall pick out there, every possible snap, not waiting to spell one of the starters or passing out the water.

When the draft is rich at a position you are poor at, you do not duck it and wait. We are desperate for edge and this draft has elite edge. QED.

If Staley opts to retire, we can, as you suggest for the edge, address the RT later in the draft or through FA. The LT would of course be McGlinchey. We need to look at this position later in the draft anyway.

As important as the OT position is, edge rush is even more important. Garoppolo is mobile and gets rid of the ball very quickly.

I'm all for playing Williams inside for a year if Joe returns. My statement was addressing the post saying that some scouts believe Williams should be moved to guard permanently. He's a tackle and an excellent one at that with really polished technique that you don't see in many tackles coming into the league.

I'm also dead against putting Jimmy at risk with some nobody FA or draft project playing RT for him if Joe retires. In today's NFL, your RT needs to be just as good in pass protection as your LT. So moving McGlinchey to LT still leaves us in a bad spot.

Do you guys really want to spend 2019 with Jimmy on the sidelines again because we prioritized selecting an edge over keeping him safe? I sure don't. We lose Jimmy again and no matter how good our D becomes we'll still be a non contender.

Plus looking around the NFL, you can have a suspect D and still win a lot of games. I'm not sure teams won't be placing a heavy emphasis on trying to build a powerhouse offense. Even the best defenses are being shredded by good offenses.

personally, I don't think Bosa will be taken ahead of anyone from the above list aside CHUBB...

Bosa is very good, but to say he's the best player and should be taken FIRST overall just tells me that these are the same guys who fell in love with SOLOMON THOMAS after watching the bowl game against UNC..

The NON STOP MOTOR in the NFL doesn't mean one is going to be a great player... PLUS, we already have a BOSA in SOLOMON..
Pack is struggling...not that there's a chance the Cards win on Sunday but it sure would be nice.
Raiders gonna get killed by the Chiefs...they stay put.
Seattle embarrasses us. We stay put.

Bosa is training for the NFL right now...getting ready for the combine. Kids gonna light it up. Gonna crush the combine and make jaws drop.
Take him at #1 and pray he has a healthy career.

Because we can expect the same Jimmy coming back from a torn ACL?

Why risk him running around the pocket to avoid rushers because we neglected finding a legit replacement for Staley if he retires?

Bosa isn't saving us if Jimmy gets hurt again because we failed to build a line that can protect him.

Might as well just not draft anyone then
