I took a Wonderlic recently. It's basically a rapid fire math test. 30 questions in 6 minutes (Iirc, might have been 12 mins but either way it was way less than 30 seconds per question).

Not everyone can calculate the answers to word problems in their head that fast. So I can definitely see how someone who can get good grades in school might struggle with it.

This. I took one as part of a military selection process. None of the questions are particularly hard, there's just a lot of them, and not much time. We weren't allowed to use any scratch paper, so some multi-variable, multi-step problems were tough to solve quickly. Honestly, I just skipped those, since each test item is weighed the same. I wish I knew what I got, but they never disclosed those results.
