I'm not a ND fan, but I am 30 years old and love me some Chase.

Every year I try to identify a player I love for each day of the draft. Obviously, Bosa is my day 1 crush. Chase is running away as a day 2 crush for me.

Could he fit as a base SAM (and obviously fill a role as a sub package end for us) ? Double dip with a LEO in the first and Chase in the second ?

Chase could even fall to the third. I would be surprised if he blows up the combine, and several other guys will climb through the pre-draft process. I think he'd be a good pick in the 2nd, or a great pick in the third.

That did not answer the question as to whether he can fit as a base Sam backer though.

Seeing how Saleh has utilized the SAM has provided clarity to what we should be looking for, and I think Chase would be wasted there. The most important attributes for a SAM are:

1) set an edge
2) cover
3) tackle

Thank you for the reply. Obviously he could be a sub package edger rusher if we took a LEO in the first. I just wondered if he would fit in base as a SAM with us which would see him play every down as I know he is a high motor/high energy player.
Backup Leo and primary nickel edge rusher is how I'd use him in this scheme. He basically bounces Marsh off the roster so that he can spend the rest of his days playing Magic the gathering.

I'd still be all for a double dip if we don't add a quality vet who can play edge in FA. LEO at 1, Chase later on. Going to need depth and a second edge rusher in sub packages.

I haven't seen him in coverage, though covering the flats isn't particularly hard. He tackles well in space, which suggests that he has sufficient lateral agility to cover/tackle in the flats. He certainly has the play strength to set the edge against a TE. Pending 3-cone and shuttle results from the combine, I would expect that he'd be fine at SAM.
I'm not really worried about SAM. I wonder how many snaps the SLB averages a game? 5? And if you're building to beat the Rams, you're never going to use a SAM because they play the entire game in 11 personnel.

We need edge rushers. I want two. Give me Nick and Chase.

Some classic bring their lunch pales to work guys. Real sneaky atheletic guys. With high motors and students of game.

.

I like "tackles from behind the line of scrimmage".
