That sucks was really looking forward to see who would trade up for him.
Herbert had a very average year and didn't even make 3rd string all PAC-12. He has several reasons to come back next year including a chance to play with his brother, an incoming class that is rated #5 and a chance to finish at Oregon with a major bowl win and maybe even a shot at the national playoffs. He would be a high pick this year but if he comes back and has a great year he will still go in the top 10. If he gets drafted by the Giants I'm not sure how he will handle New York media and fans. Here in little Eugene he is in his home town and never gets much criticism. In New York he will get a lot of that as he learns how to play the position. In spite of his size and arm strength he still has flaws in his delivery and of course he will need to learn how to read defenses. Not like the weak PAC-12 defenses.

The best scenario he could be in, in light of your post, would be to sit behind a veteran like Manning for a season. I think he's made a mistake not coming out this year.

Does the law of supply and demand say Haskins value is now higher? Granted there should be a lot of veteran QBs on the market, but none so good to pass on a QB with a first round grade.

The New York Giants might end up being the biggest losers in all of this, followed by us.

The Jaquars lose out, too.

I specifically mentioned the Giants because they had a clear shot at a quarterback last year and passed on that. The Jaguars had a shot too in a sense but not the same opportunity that the Giants had.

It could be a mistake if he gets hurt but if he has a great year and they win the PAC-12 or go to the playoffs he may end up in a better position. This year the first 6 or 7 teams in the draft already have a young or established QB. Next year you may end up with a couple teams picking 1 and 2 that need a QB. Sitting behind Manning sounds good on paper but the way things are now the pressure to start the young QB is greater than ever. Not like yhe old days where you really had a chance to learn.

I can't see how he ends up in a better position then this yr...there's literally no QBs outside of Haskins. Tuh will be ahead of him and you could put Fromm right with him next yr.

We will see, imo he just cost himself millions so he could play ball with his brother and probably go 8-4 again

I know a little about the family since I live in Eugene and am close with a friend of the family. They are fairly well off and money isn't his sole purpose for playing. He is a 4.1 student and wants his degree and really wants the chance to play with his little brother. He will get paid millions no matter when he is picked. If he goes in the first round the money will be fine. As far as Oregon going 8-4 that remains to be seen. With him returning and the 5th best recruiting class in the country they very well could have 10-12 win season. The PAC-12 is fairly weak right now.

You mean 6th

Hey too each their own, if he doesn't want to be the top QB selected in the draft that's his thing. Losing millions is losing millions, I don't care who ya are lol. He's got a real chance at doing that and the possibility of getting hurt is always there, it's football.

If the dude is a 4.0 student finish that s**t in the off season. Silly IMO but it's not my life.

I totally understand that. I'm speaking from the perspective of if he does well and is drafted early next year, he probably goes to a team that looks like Arizona or the Raiders on paper. This year? He could've ended up with the Giants or Jaguars, which have far better rosters. I hope it works out for him.
I think thats a positive.
The less top QB are there, the harder the QB needy teams have to try to get the one guy thats there in the pool.
Hopefully it works out well for him. I know he regressed a bit this year so- maybe- another year of seasoning helps in the long run.

It's a lot of money to pass up on but- truthfully- the real money for qbs is in their second contract these days.

Dude better not wax Stanford is all Im saying
