DeAndre Baker CB Georgia

He has nothing on Greedy, Byron Murphy, and maybe Trayvon Mullen.
No love for this guy? Many people have him over greedy.
Great zone corner. Georgia's scheme is really, really similar to Saleh's, so he's highly proficient in many of the techniques used here(ex press-bail).

But that stupid height requirement strikes again.

Had some ridiculous stat about not allowing a TD in coverage the last 2 seasons... that was true up until the SEC championship game, I don't know if it still is.
We were talking about him last year when I thought he might declare. There was a lot to like as a Day 2 prospect, now he's had a great year and is looking like a top 15 pick not so much.

I like his game, he seems to understand his job very well, I just don't see enough to make me think he's special.

Perfect scheme fit though.

Hopefully our scheme gets changed a little. If we are going for this scheme I really like Kris Boyd. If we are going more man I'm hoping for Levante Taylor. Both can be had in the 2nd round or later.
Spent some time watching the top CBs again this week...DeAndre Baker is an absolute natural in zone, especially from press-bail. Unlike many of our cornerbacks, Baker is adept at staying in phase(which allows him to locate the ball), stacking WRs and using the boundary as help. Really good zone eyes, spacing, route recognition, and awareness. Add in the extreme competitiveness, willing tackler, and he's one of the best cornerbacks near the top of the draft for the 49ers scheme.

I'm going to be pissed if the 49ers overlook him because he's not 6-3.

I agree with this, but I don't like the value, apparently he may post a slow time which might help, but I don't want to trade up for him.

Also heard he's an a*hole.
I just finished my review of Baker. Here is what I saw over 10 games viewed (every snap) in 2018:

* Baker can play press or off the ball. I didn't see a drop in ability in either facet of covering.
* He is fast and quick. Effortless glider on the field.
* Doesn't give up the deep ball. I didn't see one catch beyond him. When he allows catches, WRs get no YAC. Quickly closes on them to tackle.
* Strong football intelligence. Makes switches seemlessly, directs traffic when needed, and in the right place at the right time. Didn't see breakdowns in coverage.
* Matched up very well with NFL caliber WRs in Jeudy, Samuel. Jefferson, Davis and Slayton. Didn't see him struggle in any of these games. All was quiet.
* Not the tallest corner (probably will measure in at 5'11 or 5'11 1/2), but appears to have long arms.
* Breaks exceptionally well on the ball, forcing numerous pass breakups.
* Only saw one pass interference penalty on an intermediate back-shoulder pass along the sideline. Was not an egregious penalty.
* Will tackle when forced to, but not a guy running into a pile.
* Biggest negative is a lack of heart for tackling in run support.

Overall, this is a pretty remarkable cover corner, who is scheme-versatile, fast and quick. I wish he had more fire in the belly for run support. If so, he's a top 10 prospect. This knocks him down a bit for me as a first rounder. Still, this is a top 20-25 prospect, and one of the best, if not the best CB in the draft.

Hall had injured groin and was still beating Baker. Lock just never threw to him but a couple times.

Didn't match up in 2018. Hall was injured--------Corrected-they did match up. Zero catches for Hall. Hall had groin issue but played.

They did matchup but Hall was injured. And was catchless on i believe 2 targets

Watched the 1st 2 1/2 quarters.

Hall basically just ran like 10 routes that whole time.

Baker had good defense on the 3 deep routes. 2 would have been penalties in NFL.

he blowing by baker on another but lock threw underneath before the play developed.

He blew by him again 2nd possession of 3rd but no throw. Not sure if there was safety help or not.

He had one RPO route he had baker turned around and had easy inside release but lock handed it off.

2 routes open underneath but ball thrown elsewhere.

Baker was legit dont get me wrong. But imo he didnt shutdown an already injured Hall. He had 1 target through 1st 2 1/2 quarters.

Sucks cause have to watch whole game and find them as opposed to an iso cam on 1 or the other.

I was already a big fan of D'andre Walker. Even bigger fan after watching that game again.

Correct in that they matched up in 2018. I second-guessed myself after visiting a website that posted stats for Hall and did not list him as playing in the game. He did play and did not have a reception. I don't have the exact amount of times they lined up against each other, but I believe it was about 25 times.

Charted their matchups in the game:
1st quarter- No targets in their matchup.
2nd quarter- First target in their matchup at the 11:02 minute mark. Baker runs stride for stride with Hall who step out of bounds. Ball is overthrown.
No other targets in this quarter.
3rd quarter- Second target between Hall and Baker at 3:24 left in the 3rd. Baker breaks up the pass.
4th quarter- No targets for Hall in their matchup.

There were two times Hall ran past Baker. On the first, Baker throttled down because the ball was already in the air (it was picked off)
The second time, it appears there is safety help across the top. Again, it looks like he is throttling down to play zone.

I didn't see any penalties.

I honestly think Baker was bored half the time. It simply wasn't much of a contest between the two.
