I can't believe I'm agreeing with Rascal but this makes sense.

I believe that DK has enough in the toolbox to be dominant, there's definitely a risk involved and he's not worth a top 5.

If Bosa is gone, and say the Dolphins come with a ridiculous trade offer, out of the players that could be available I would probably only take Burns or MAYBE Ferrell above DK.

I'd be mad as hell if they were drafting in the teens with their first pick. If you look at the overall history of the draft over the past 20 years, your odds of hitting on an upper echelon player by far are greatest in the top 10, once you get into the teens, they tend to drop off quite a bit.

One of the few upsides of having a crappy, losing season is that you get a real crack at the most elite prospects available. To throw that away for a receiver that only managed to stay healthy in one of three years in college would be quite disappointing, I don't care about the compensation. This team has had plenty of quantity in the past. I don't see how putting yourself out of striking range of any elite defensive prospects helps them ultimately.

I have far more trust in Shanahan to scheme up an offense than I do in Saleh to get by with lesser talent.

I think our best shot at landing Metcalf is if we trade down towards the back half of the top 10, land an edge (Burns, Allen, Sweat) and then trade up into the teens with the compensation we got from trading down. If we ended up with Burns and Metcalf with our first 2 picks without giving up anything, I'd be pretty happy. It's very unlikely given how many good receivers could be there for our 2nd and 3rd round picks, but the depth of the WR class (coupled with injury concerns) could cause Metcalf to fall.

I think the important thing to remember about Metcalf is that he's not just a straight line speed guy. He's also a massive target with the equivalent catch radius of a 6'5 receiver like Calvin Johnson.

If we can land an EDGE and Metcalf in the 1st, I would be over the moon.

To me, taking a lesser EDGE e.g. Burns, Seat, Ferrell + Metcalf is a better deal than taking Bosa at 2. I have always maintained Bosa would be overdrafted at 2. The only player worthy for the 2 pick is Q. But, EDGE is the bigger need. If a team calls up on draft day wanting to trade up, I don't see how Lynch and Shanny would be able to refuse to deal.
The biggest problem with evaluating receivers and QB's out of college is the quality of the defenses that they face. So many college defenses are pure garbage since the game has evolved into the up tempo game we see every week. They put so much emphasis on scoring that they barely pay attention to trying to stop the other team. The offenses aren't very complex either: nothing like what Kyle and some of the other teams run. The only conference that seems to at least try and play defense anymore is the SEC. The PAC12 and Big12 have become a complete joke when it comes to defense which is why I am skeptical of the numbers that players from those conferences put up. Lot's of hype about Herbert next year based on his size and arm strength but I have yet to see him have a good game against a quality defense. What will he do when he has 3 or 4 seconds to fit those passes into a tiny window?
Matt maiccco on his podcast today said not to hold your on SF drafting DK...apparently his interview at the combine didn't go very well.

That's an easy thing to say considering we're picking #2 and Metcalf isn't getting drafted #2 but will be gone way before our 2nd round pick. It would take some massive trades for us to get Metcalf.

Nah i believe he said in a trade down as well. Sounds like he rubbed our guys the wrong way in the interview

lmao to T&D.

but seriously even he said he learned an important lesson when he taught him to "keep his cool"

im guessing they gave him super hard ball questions and he reacted negatively to it. I honestly think Metcalf will be super good but could be a super diva also like AB or TO.
This guy makes some pretty good points about Metcalf. He can do a bit more than he's given credit for, and if used correctly he could be a very useful weapon.

Anyone who likes DK has posted this clip. Someone posted it first and subsequently I have reposted twice just to prove my point when arguing with haters.

This guy will need a bit of work to develop him properly in order to maximize his full potential. But, boy if whoever is going draft him can really coach him up properly, his ceiling is sky high.

*shrugs* 71 pages is a lot to read. The points made are valid, though. He's going to be a good receiver. Shanahan isn't a fan of changing his scheme for a player, but Metcalf can run the deep in breaking routes we do on play-action. It's not like he'd be useless here. However, he's definitely not a 2nd overall pick in this draft. Not with guys like Williams and Bosa sitting there.
I feel like Metcalf went from underrated to way overrated to underrated again. I guess that's just how things go :/
