DK Metcalf

The odds are against it. NFL defenses have a way to take one trick ponies away. We will see

It's true. The only guy I can think of that made it is Calvin Johnson. Even then, he could run more routes and was more fluid than DK. There's been so many freakishly strong and fast WR's that haven't been much more than role players. I just think of Kevin White a few years ago. He was 6-3, 215 and ran a 4.35 40 but was average in the 3 cone and 20 yard shuttle(DK was worse than White in the 3 cone by a good bit). We all know what a household name Kevin White is.....lol.

Lmao this is why agility drills for wrs is very important

The dude who posted the GIF of the aircraft carrier turning had me falling back laughing, no joke.

Look at Terrell Pryor. Converted qb, 7.2 3 cone time so like Metcalf is very limited as a route runner in both ability and training and he still has a 1,000 yard season under his belt with 6 different qb's tossing him the ball that year. Couldn't sustain it but he also made the mistake of leaving Clv and starting over with a squad.

Or you know, teams just got tape of him at WR and adjusted. The history of the NFL is littered with one year wonders like that.

Or he fell out of favor in Wsh and is now kind of relegated to being a 3rd receiver.

Dez Bryant says hi. He ran a 7.21 and a 4.48 20 yard shuttle. It really isn't rare at all to see a big receivers struggle in agility drills and still have success in the league.

But he didn't run that at the combine, teams were looking more at his tape.

Again, other than Dez and Johnson, I can't think of too many receivers who were wildly successful because they were big and fast alone.

Great WRs don't "fall out of favor" and get buried on the depth chart with a team who has bad WRs

The cream always rises to the top. If he was worth a damn as a WR, he'd be getting paid well now instead of just bouncing from team to team.

Yeah. The tape is what's important. DK looks stiff and unathletic relative to what it takes to be a successful WR. He has size, strength and straight line speed which alone isn't enough.

Hurd is interesting since he's massive and fast but still moves like hes a much smaller WR.

Who said he's a great receiver? He's a converted qb. The point is even he with no experience, technique relying solely on being big and fast has had some success in this league.

There's also guys like Thomas, Gordon who didn't run a 3 cone so it's impossible to say for sure with them but they also came in with very big route running concerns. That's the problem with this discussion if DK had a smart manager he'd just skip the drill like Calvin, Gordon, Thomas, etc.

DK might compare to Dez & Calvin physically but was no where close to the same skill coming out of college. Calvin was considered one of the greatest WR prospects ever and stood out as the best receiver in the nation at Georgia Tech... just think about that for a moment. He had a RB playing QB throwing him the ball and still was so good that it wasnt a debate about who was the best WR in college at that time.

Dez was considered a better prospect than Crabtree who came out the year before to go along with Velcro hands. Had he not been suspended he would of taken the top WR award that year.

DK... wasnt even the best WR on his team to go along with inconsistent hands.

I'm not so sure about that. Crabtree was one of the best college WRs of all time.

Obviously Dez turned out to be the better player though.
