So your theory is, we take a really good though untried in the NFL player, and trade a really good, tried and tested player. I thought we were trying to get better? Buckner on a rookie contract. Q maybe, just maybe, as good or possibly even a little better.
You have been beating this drum for some time. There seems very little point in the transaction. We have just one edge rusher but we have spent our top pick. By the time we get round to trading Buckner it is highly likely that the return will not be until next year. So we have to pick a lower calibre edge with our second. So receiver, safety or OL goes down a grade.
I just don't see it. If Lynch and Shanahan do it I shall have very serious doubts about their sanity. Buckner is the best player on the D by far, maybe the best player on the team. To trade him during a draft which is very strong on D linemen is just stupid. To trade your best player during a rebuild doubly so.
Total SMH.
