Quinnen Williams, DT Alabama

This. We shouldn't let Dee Ford being on our roster distract us from the fact that we gave one legit starting edge rusher. One. We have arguably guys that could start inside right now and this is AFTER cutting Earl Mitchell.
20 days until Quinnen Williams will be a 49er!

I agree. QW and Donald are unique.
IMO it's better to compare certain qualities. I think QW's slippery like BY, but I'm guessing Lynch is thinking QW can be the heartbeat of the D like Sapp (and like Foster was supposed to).

QW doesn't have a comp, as a prospect he's Sapp and Wilfork in one. Suh is the closest but Suh doesn't have the athletic ability QW does, which is why Donald gets thrown out there.

I'm guessing Lynch does love him, then remembers that his classmate would be out of a job so won't draft him.

I don't believe that you seriously think this. By the way, neither do I believe that you seriously think he would not get immediately snapped up by another team. So......

I do, I'm not sure if the personal relationship is clouding his judgement or not, but I'm certain he still thinks Solly is a good player.

I think he is a good player, too. The question really is was he overdrafted? With Bosa in the line up I think Thomas will start to play to his full potential.

He was definitely overdrafted. I am willing to wait and see if he develops, but the cost of passing on QW is high.

We won't pass on QW because of Thomas. We would for Bosa.

We could easily say Thomas was over drafted, but it's a done deal. Let's see how he does at his actual natural position inside this year lol and as English said, now he's between Buckner and Bosa or Ford?! He will be fine if not downright excellent.

If AZ takes Bosa then we take QW. Not because Thomas is good or bad, but because QW is easily the bpa with no viable trade offer to accept. It's a logjam and a pita, but we have to take what the draft gives us.

I agree.

I've said it a few times...if we take QW we better be ready to invest an early pick on a DE.

If we take Bosa we don't have to invest an early pick at DT. In a way you're not only improving the team with Bosa by letting the strength of our DL to do what they do best(which is play inside outside of Ford) but also giving us a better chance to improve the roster at other need positions.

And the cost of passing on QW is not high. Bosa is a great prospect on his own right and I think most people agree that even if he's not one getting 15+ sacks per season he's going to be a great player who can hold up vs the run well and also rush the passer and be a legit threat.

With no Quinnen we'd still have Bosa, Buckner and Ford on the DL. Solomon Thomas wouldn't have to play as a #3 overall pick for that line to be good. If he comes anywhere close to that pick then it will be one of the best units in the NFL.

Its tough. If AZ takes Bosa, i would assume we receive no trade offers either/anyways (because AZ didn't) QW is my top pick after Bosa. We would have to do a lot of wheeling and dealing, but i think QW is a very realistic pick unless they go Allen. Cant see it being anyone besides them.

Can't wait! I'll be ecstatic!!! I don't foresee a trade back at all. I think after missing on Solly last year, Lynch has some pressure to pick the right guy. Just go with the odds and take the best player available. Yes there is duplication but we'll make it work.

If qw is the pick Buckner will be traded there is no way around it. No way he get extended with qw on roster, so maybe it happens next offseason...but I say just do it draft day cuz this is the best chance to get max return. It's bittersweet but it's business.

Why would you trade?

So your theory is, we take a really good though untried in the NFL player, and trade a really good, tried and tested player. I thought we were trying to get better? Buckner on a rookie contract. Q maybe, just maybe, as good or possibly even a little better.

You have been beating this drum for some time. There seems very little point in the transaction. We have just one edge rusher but we have spent our top pick. By the time we get round to trading Buckner it is highly likely that the return will not be until next year. So we have to pick a lower calibre edge with our second. So receiver, safety or OL goes down a grade.

I just don't see it. If Lynch and Shanahan do it I shall have very serious doubts about their sanity. Buckner is the best player on the D by far, maybe the best player on the team. To trade him during a draft which is very strong on D linemen is just stupid. To trade your best player during a rebuild doubly so.

Total SMH.
