Welcome to No. 1, Quinnen Williams.

A change this late in the process deserves an explanation. It's not as simple as a handful of general managers telling me I'm wrong—in fact, many I talked to said the opposite about my original pick—but more about going with what the evaluation says. What makes Williams the better prospect? It boiled down to two factors:

1. Nick Bosa has incurred two injuries in four years.

A core muscle injury suffered in Week 3 shut Bosa down for the rest of the 2018 college football season. And while many will point to the belief he could have returned to the Buckeyes had they made the College Football Playoff, it's still a season-ending setback that must be evaluated. Bosa, as a senior in high school, also injured his knee and had surgery to repair a partially torn ACL.

Nick Bosa's still an elite, No. 1-worthy talent, but his durability is a concern.

Injured players have a way of staying injured. It's the same reason D.K. Metcalf and Marquise Brown take hits on my big board
. Two fairly major injuries in four seasons is enough to bump Bosa just enough to let Williams overtake him.

2. Quinnen Williams hasn't reached his potential.

A first-year starter as a redshirt sophomore, Williams played well enough that he should have received serious Heisman Trophy consideration in 2018. His eight sacks and 19.5 tackles for a loss showed his dominance, and at only 21 years old as of December 21, Williams is still growing and developing as a player.

It's easy to look at Bosa and see a grown man who is already at his physical peak thanks to years of training with his brother, Joey (No. 3 overall pick, 2016 draft), and father, John (No. 16 overall pick, 1987 draft). Bosa hit the genetic lottery and comes from a long line of football players. We have a good idea of who Nick can be thanks to Joey, who has also suffered injuries.

With Williams, there is no known ceiling. He has the athleticism, work ethic and strength to continue to improve. You hear the term "maxed out" in scouting. Bosa is maxed out. Williams is just getting started.

No 2 is one of main reasons I think Niners should pick Q over Bosa. I think Q is already a better player but also his ceiling is so much higher.

What is this garbage where one 21 year old is maxed out while the other can apparently improve without limits...

Bosa and Williams have different ceilings. You can argue about how much but one guy was ridiculously dominant as a starter after having to change positions and stack on a whole lot of weight in just one year. Combined with his athleticism at that size, we really have no clue just how good he can be with more snaps under his belt.

In that regard, Miller isn't saying anything different than most anyone else out there. The major appeal of Williams is that for as good he is now, there's still a lot more left for him to improve in terms of polish and conditioning as he settles into that weight.
Ian Rapoport: I would be 'very surprised' Quinnen Williams is available for New York Jets at No. 3

Couple of things -

a) I never said Bosa is max out. I posted Q has a higher ceiling.
b) I think this is quite obvious - Q has played his position for 1 year. Bosa has been coached at his position for a long time. He's closer to his ceiling than Q. Q is not only playing a new position but in a new body. He has more room for improvement.

Go with the player who is the most elite and is and will be the better player. That in my opinion is QW but if Shanalynch have Bosa even with QW then take Bosa. But if they have QW graded significantly higher I hope they have the balls to go with QW.

All I know is I'm gonna be a very happy man if our card has Bosa or QW on it. Get one of them.
It's going to say Allen
I can't imagine taking QW over Bosa, but nothing surprises me with this franchise anymore lol

Let's get this draft going!!

True.
QW has very high ceiling (poor man's Aaron Donald or poor man Reggie White upside) with a very high floor (almost guaranteed to be very good)

Bosa has a lower ceiling (think Joey Bosa at best) and a lower floor due to high injury risk

QW could play DE on base downs and move inside to DT in nickel

Base Downs:
Armstead / K Street
Buckner
Solomon / K Street
QW

Nickel Downs:
Dee Ford
Buckner
QW
Ezekiel Ansah??? options for nickel pass rusher = FA / draft pick (D3 or D4) / K Street / Armstead

Mid round EDGE / SAM draft options: Maxx Crosby / Christian Miller / Oshane Ximines, etc
FA Options: Ansah, Nick Perry, etc
