Quinnen Williams, DT Alabama

The most impressive aspect of Quinnen's game for me is how effective he is out of that god awful stance. I'd love to see what he can do for an entire game in a real upfield stance.

True. He is a legit people mover out of that stance too. Hopefully, the Cards fall in love with him and pick him #1 without trying to trade down.

I honestly would absolutely hate for Q to end up in our division. I don't want to see our Niners trying to block Jones and Williams 2x a season.

I think that will happen no matter what. Just yet to be seen if they get more picks and Q or just Q at 1.

Q inside with Jones outside would be nasty on top of playing Donald twice a year. Another reason to put some effort into upgdrading the interior OL again.

Wait, so now we're trading Solomon Thomas, drafting this guy and moving Buckner to NT?

Don't think so.

Buckner shouldn't be moved anywhere. The whole point of me wanting Q is to create chaos in the middle and allow everyone else to benefit. Any DC worth his salt should be able to have unblocked blitzers creating pressure off the attention paid to Buckner and Williams. What will teams do then, try and not double those two? We see what having two monster 3T's can do by watching the LAR and Suh isn't even as good as he once was, but him being there is helping Donald go from a 10+ sack guy to a 20 sack guy. Williams has a chance to do that for Buckner or vice versa. Williams also plays NT at Alabama and anyone thinking he can't play the 1 for us is crazy because this kid went from DE to NT at Alabama and no matter where they put him he dominates because he can't be blocked with his exceptional hand usage and the insane leverage/power/agility he plays with.

This also wouldn't spell the end of Thomas because he would still play the big end position and has a chance to keep developing as an elite run defender, but it takes him off the field on passing downs unless he can make huge strides rushing from the outside. We'd also have an incredible run defense by having both Thomas and Williams on the field on run downs because Williams is the best interior run defender in college.

Bosa is the only defensive player that anyone could make a case for that should be taken before Williams. If we pass on him for the a lesser player because they play EDGE, it will be a decision that we will regret for years.

While things may change soon, it is looking like this upcoming free agent class and draft class is going to be loaded at EDGE and we have a chance not only to get a player who has Aaron Donald like potential, but also come away with a legit EDGE rusher without selecting one in the top 5.

Which looks better on passing downs...

Fowler/Graham (FA)
Buckner
Williams (1st Round)
Winovich (2nd Round)

or

Fowler/Graham (FA)
Buckner
Thomas
Allen (1st Round)

The clear weak link is Thomas in that second lineup until he develops as a pass rusher. You eliminate that from the equation by selecting Williams.

Pretty strong argument for Williams. Doesn't get any better than that. I think Thomas will fair much better at big end than at LEO. I still prefer other options, but it's a formidable lineup to say the least.
If we were to pass on Q just because we chose Solly last year...😡😡😡😡👎

We pass on him bc we got Buckner at 3 tech racking up 12 sacks.

They should go BPA in the draft, and if it means picking up this guy so be it. I wanted Jonathan Allen in 2017. We should have picked our DL from the SEC to begin with.

People forget when we picked Patrick Willis that MLB was probably the strongest position at the time. If we don't trade down and Bosa is off the board, I would be fine with Williams.

agreed

If we are that desperate for an edge rusher and we reach for a lesser player at a need position, then the Niners have only themselves to blame for not trying hard enough in free agency

By that you mean we had Brandon Moore. He had a good year but that's not having 2 top 10 picks already in that spot.

This
Sometimes you just take BPA and you don't look back. This guys arguably the best player in the draft.
