Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

What makes this guy elite? How does he compare to McGlinchey?

Welp, LT it is.

I said earlier in the season.

Staley commited to next season which is great, but that doesn't mean we won't draft Jonah and groom him for a year. It may be the wise move once our pick is on the clock.

Totally. The OL is great at run blocking but still have given up well over 100 QB hits. It needs work. Tomlinson and Richburg were horrendous yesterday.

We need a guard thread lol
So now that we dropped to 4 locking up our future tackles isn't a bad idea. Question is could he play guard this season while Staley is still around

Yes. He might even be a better guard than tackle in the NFL though I expect him to be good anywhere you put him on the OL.
If we get a great pass rusher in FA, I would not mind this first round pick. I would hate this pick if we didn't get a pass rusher in FA because no guarantees there will be a good one left in second round.

That would be a good scenario. Having two young talented tackles would be a serious benefit
With Bosa off the table, I'd be ok with this pick as long as they addess ER in FA
I would not be so surprise if Jon Gruden takes him w/the 2nd overall pick if BOSA no longer there...

My question is... will you all hate the pick if J-Lynch drafts him on our spot or even if he trade down a bit??

Everything I read says he's legit. Easily a dominant guard and will probably be a fantastic LT as well.

Not a sexy pick like McGlinchey, but I wouldn't mind unless I had a real hardon for someone who was still on the board at the time, like if they took him over Allen etc.

Obviously we will all have solidified our opinions closer to draft and after FA, depending on where we pick etc.
The more I see the list of the numbers of defenders up on this draft, the more I think that it would be best to get every possible high rated offensive players early..

I think Williams is getting pushed up because there's nothing at OT this yr....I think he's solid, not sure he's going to ever be a dominate tackle (I do question his length).

Honestly, I think you can find a future RT in FA more than you can find a top edge rusher. By drafting Williams you're bacially telling Joe this is your last yr with SF. If we're clicking on 2019, I can't see Joe leaving.

Brother he's gonna be 36 in two years. His body will be telling him not the coaches lol maybe he can defy it!

I think we should at least draft a developmental tackle later on then. Would be the smart thing to do. What if joe gets hurt?

Bro.....why you still fighting it? Just give in, it'll feel so much better that way when Williams is the pick.

I actually think that Williams could be an absolutely dominant guard or a pretty good tackle, at either the left or right side but a lot will depend on his measurements and off-season performance. In terms of technical ability, Williams is a lot like McGlinchey was, very polished for a college lineman, better suited to play the left side IMO but you can put him at pretty much any guard or tackle spot and I think he'd be a huge plus. If Staley played for 1 to 2 more years then you'd have Williams in at guard mashing people.

andrew whitworth is currently 37 and is one of the best OTs in the game.

I'd rather fill a position we need for next yr not in 2 yrs.

I'm down for a developmental pick.

I think there's also some quality RTs in the 2020 FA class as well.
