Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

It's not like a ton of good OTs hit the FA market, so banking on being able to go out and just sign a guy to play tackle seems very risky

It's not a huge weakness of the team overall...Laken isn't going anywhere (just got an extension) and Person is playing solid ball imo.

We got a bunch of trash coming off the edge, that could transform the D overall.

I'll sign Gilbert, Collins, Bulaga, Beachum etc...also got 2020 draft.

Jonah Williams!

Yeah let's develop a guy using our 4th overall pick

Booo

Hey hey now. If we can draft a DT 3rd and play him on the edge we can certainly draft a tackle 4th and play him at guard.

It is never a bad idea to prioritise the OL, having Williams and McGlinchey in place would have us set for 10 years.

I know you want an edge rusher, I do too, but the value still has to be there. If we don't get Bosa, and can't trade down we need to consider all the top rated guys.

You can pass on great for extremely good, you can't pass on great for good.

I don't think Williams is great I think he's good.

Fair enough if that's your opinion, I think he's the best tackle prospect in quite a while, you could argue Tunsil is up there with him, but apart from that I don't know who else you put with him, 4 year starter on a pro style championship team, what's not to like? He's agile, tough and has great technique.

I liked Stanley & Conklin over Tunsil. If we're looking for a future RT just sign someone. There's quality guys available in 2020 and usually you can find one in FA. Can't say the same for edge.

Lol yeah let's not do that again

You're basically telling Joe hey you're done in SF once you draft him...dude is still playing at a high level and might want to play in 2020.

I want impact position yr 1 with a top 5 pick, not a god damn guard who transitions to a RT whenever Joe might hang it up.

I disagree with that, you'd be drafting Williams as your future LT, McGlinchey will be fine on the left, but is better suited to stay on the right. Having Williams on our line opens up huge options, even at Guard, he'll still be on his rookie deal, and you say to Joe, no rush, he stays at Guard until you're ready to go.

Do I really have to bring up previous "positional value" errors?

Williams stays at guard until Joe is ready to go and in the meantime he gets another little brother.

I'd much rather trade down then draft another tackle who will play guard for whomever knows how long. If trey Adams would have declared Williams wouldn't have even been the top tackle imo.

We need a pass rusher above anything else imo there's 4 or 5 1st rd talents. We can NOT go into the 2019 season with subpar talent there. SF's OL and offense overall (even with Mullens) has been more than fine.

Now if you told me we got Lawrence in FA then all bets are off. I see it more as a luxury pick with Williams and I also think you can fix whatever issue we might have with tackle whenever that actually happens in FA or a future draft.

I also see him as a RT at the most.
I'm anti William's cus I'm team #AlaricJackson2020

For Pete's sake...SCREW THE NO1 pick! Play ball!!
This pick makes a lot of sense, as long as edge is addressed in FA & later in draft.

I'm certain he has the footwork and technique to play LT, and he's also perfect for our scheme.

I think you're right about their being 5 1st round edge prospects, but I don't think they're all top 10 guys, a trade back into the 1st round could be on the cards.

Ensatsu wants a team of losers so the 49ers get the first pick every year.
