Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

That's exactly how chumps like Dion Jordan, Barkevious Mingo, Vernon Gholston and Aaron Curry got drafted so high.

I'm all for getting edge help, but it needs to be done within ballpark value, trade back and get a haul, or make a move from the 2nd round pick.

You can't/shouldn't force a pick. If Bosa is gone, trade down isn't an option and Josh Allen hasn't impressed enough as far as pass rush skillset goes then they should go with either Williams from Bama. Either would make an instant impact as a rookie.

With Herbert going back to school, the likelihood of a tradeup by a QB needy team has either disappeared or become more likely. Gotta hope that the new coach of the Cards wants to protect their QB investment and that Williams has two great games in the playoff plus good offseason workouts.

For Baalke the 2nd round, some others might take him off their boards! We value technique and fluidity over most other attributes so I think we'll still want him.

Staley will have us thinking pass, but I know we'll be tempted unless another of these edge guys blow us away, at the moment I could only see that being Josh Allen, we could coach him at the Senior Bowl, he could dominate it and the Combine and we'll be sold.

I like Williams, but we can't pass on this ER. We won't get many opportunities at this, as evidenced by our ability to draft 3 edge rushers that offered any real value in 20 years, Andre Carter, Aldon Smith, and Aaron Lynch.

It still keeps us with our fingers crossed at tackle, but this is what happens when you have a 4-11 team. You tend to have a lot of holes.

I never said take anyone at 2 just because they are an edge rusher. I have my one guy and after that, I've stated on multiple boards how advantageous it is for us to be drafting 2nd (or even 3rd) if that one player is not available.

If they can't make a trade happen, I'd go with Jonah Williams. One less thing to worry about and we aren't totally screwed if one of our tackles gets hurt.

Not as long as Haskins comes out.

I would be very happy if they take him if Bosa is gone.
The guy is good and I think he can play guard for the last few seasons of Joe.
Our situation reminds me of the Cowboys in 2014.
They took Zach Martin in the first round because Mack, Donald and Barr were gone and they just wait until the second round to take Demarcus Lawrence.

If we can't work out a trade then that's my preferred option, take a Williams, and then draft a Jaylon Ferguson, Winovich, or hope one of Polite or Burns falls within range.

Josh Allen could change that by showing an ability to rush with power at the Senior Bowl with improved hand usage, especially with Chris Kiffin teaching him first hand and him responding.

I agree with this, I'll be underwhelmed to the highest degree but joah would be okay end of the day...I would at least get the idea behind the pick
This would be a great time to draft Joe Staley's replacement. If we can draft a rookie and let him learn as a reserve for a year, he could step right in and be ready to protect Jimmy G. Having your QB not get killed is just as important as rushing the opposing QB on defense.

I'd be very happy if we could come out of the draft with one of Bosa, Jonah or Quinnen Williams.

This guy seems to fit the mold of what the 49ers want in a lineman.
Either way, Bosa or Williams = WE win.

Getting that other bookend would be awesome.

Definitely not the sexiest pick, but a very prudent one. I much rather wait until 2020, but the fact that Joe Staley only committed to playing through 2019 and didn't sign an extension sent off a warning signal. I think if he plays beyond 2019 really depends on how the year goes. We have to accept the only bad option at 2 or 3 would be over drafting someone. But our spot isn't bad. I've ranked my preferences below based on who/what is available:

1. Draft Nick Bosa
2. Trade down, hopefully to a team looking to get Haskins and setting ourselves up for this draft as well as next years.
3. Draft Jonah Williams. Solidify our tackle spot for years to come.
4. Draft Quinnen Williams and just go all in on getting edge rushers.
Fine, we'll draft QW and sign Demarcus Lawrence in FA.

I like this but would add Herbert to Haskins for QBs, and pray for one of TB, Jax, NYG to trade up for one of them. I love Jonah but we have to take care of ERs first. QW, again another inside DT, but as you say, go all in ERs, from then on. An ER in FA , if decent ...makes this a lot more palatable. Same would go for ER in FA , then Jonah looks REALLY good...oops, looks a lot like what PHX just posted.

Love Lance's breakdowns.

<--BJJ player.
I'm really starting to like him more and more if we don't get Bosa. He's such a stud tackle , you don't find these kind of prospects often and you can never have enough quality offensive lineman....
