Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

One more thing about Williams that I don't think was mentioned and it speaks volumes about him--he started as a true Freshman at Right Tackle for the Crimson Tide. How many guys can come in and leap over a passel of four and five star experienced upper class guys to start for the number one college football program in America? Williams is the real thing.

What's currently worst, our LT or pass rushing?

That's so short sighted, what would be worse if Staley retired?

I used the word "currently" and not the future.

Which is why I said short sighted, you don't draft on what your team currently need.

Lol what? You don't draft on what your team currently needs? Hahaha So let's draft a QB in round 1 just in case Jimmy G gets hurt again according to your logic.

Arizona or even the Raiders would be dumb to not consider him.

Great point.

I especially like that he spent the entire offseason working on his weaknesses, and by all accounts from people who know a hell of a lot more about OL than me(ie formers players/coaches), he has literally improved every weakness.

Buffalo.
I'm prepared for the possibility of getting him, depending on FA and Staley, but pass rusher and DB needs to be priority 1 and 2.

The exact same thing could be said about Left Tackles, Staley's knee is clearly an issue and he isn't getting any younger. I would just go on who the better prospect is.

It could but IMO you tend to find talented OTs later in the draft than pass rushers. Offense overall is much more technique heavy on the OL especially so you don't need the freak athletes. The OL knows what the play is. Defenders have to react and that's why the better athletes typically end up being the better players as long as they're not lazy and have awful technique.

For all the elite OT prospects in recent years how many have played THAT much better than the second tier OT prospects?

I don't want to wind up with a hole at LT but we've ignored pass rush long enough. Have to get our stud in this class if not a couple.

Far fetched but my friend believes the Giants will sign Bridgewater bc of his Ties to Shurmur and the draft Williams and take Grier in the 2nd..

We can't. We need more than one player and free agency won't do it all.

Definitely Buffalo and Arizona. I think it would be very hard for Oakland to not go DE with that first pick.

McGlinchey Vs everyone else
Tyron Smith
Trent Williams

Besides, I'm not saying ignore edge rusher, but don't pick a lesser player just for the sake of it.

We can't afford to miss out on an elite player, I mean how many have we got?

So you don't think we can grab a CB and pass rusher in Free Agency?

We can sign a corner, but we are not likely imo to find a reasonably young, high quality edge in FA.

I get what you're saying but it's all in the analysis sometimes. What makes a lesser player?

Tyron Smith went before JJ Watt(how friggin good was that 2011 draft class outside of the QBs?)
Trent Wiliams wasn't even the first OT taken that year and while Okung hasn't been terrible Williams has been better.

I'm obviously curious where we'll be picking and who will be available in this draft class. Outside of Bosa the edge rusher class is interesting. I'm not going to pretend I've been watching every game. I typically wait until after the NFL season to dive into the draft review. Keep an eye on a few guys I'm interested in but I'll wait until I can look at film of all the guys before picking my oneitis for this draft.

Other than Bosa Ferrell seems like the best overall DE prospect but I'll be very curious to see how he tests at the combine. Is he Aldon Smith who doesn't look fast but gets the job done or is he someone who benefited from being on that DL and may not see the same results in the NFL?

Montez Sweat is probably the guy I'm most excited to get a better look at since he seems to have good size with room to fill in and the athletic ability but I want to see his moves, speed to power, etc...

Brian Burns it's all about the size. Kid can ball but is he big enough to handle the edge?

I know this draft has edge talent beyond those guys but I'll be honest...if we don't get one of them I'm going to be a cranky sob.
