Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

Throw to the offensive linemen? They'll never see it coming.

Partially true. It it's stems from their belief the Niners have their franchise qb. First thing you do is make sure he has a great o-line to keep him healthy.

If we do end up picking lower it's very realistic he's our pick.

We do have a very solid OL currently (id say top 15) having a qb that can run the offense and get rid of the ball quickly will improve them that much more.

It would be a kick in the junk to go OT after this season imo. I'd rather trade down if that's an option.
If staley retires and we draft this guy we will have just about the same season next year as this year. Not saying anything bad about this kid but we would be replacing working parts instead of addressing glaring existing holes on this team.

with our franchise QB healthy there's no chance it will be the same season lol. I see what you mean but the team will be much improved year 3.

It wouldn't hurt that bad if we got a stud ER in FA.

If we were to land a DeMarcus Lawrence or Jadeveon Clowney in FA and Staley did retire, this would be a solid pick. Could still add a pass rusher in the 2nd or 3rd round to play opposite in subs.

Personally I don't think Joe is gonna retire he's got a $11 million dollar check coming his way. I think he understands what this team is with a healthy Jimmy and he loves playing with his new baby brother lol.

I agree with the notion that adding a OT isn't really gonna transform this squad. The OL is more than fine currently (focus on OT in 2020 or draft and develop someone). I think our OL coach is doing a fine job there.

It's gotta he edge or I'd even say CB before tackle

I feel like those are things that aren't realistic though. No way Lawrence & clowney leave. Both are young and just starting to get into their prime. Edge rushers never leave and if they do it's via trade. Also don't know why people assume Joe retires (I know your stance is hypothetical). Dude is playing top end football and about to get paid probably more cash then he has in any one season. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets extended thru 2020, you got guys like Whitworth and Peters playing at 36. Joe takes care of his body as well.

Agreed. I have zero issues if any of these guys hit FA and we land one. Then obviously a guy like Jonah makes sense etc.

I guess we assume Staley plays, but he's nearing the end. We don't want to be without a viable LT

We have a viable LT in the waiting in mcglinchey. I'd much rather roll for a RT in FA if by some dumb luck Joe says I don't want $11 million and I don't want to play with Jimmy G.
Can he rush the passer? No? Then I don't want him at 1.

I'm not sure I like the idea of switching McGlinchey to LT. I'd do everything possible to keep him at RT. In this day and age there's elite pass rushers over both Tackles. If you have a top 3 player at his position I'd explore other options before moving him imo.

Staley started out as our RT and he turned into a very good LT.

I think jl/ks drafted McG w/that in mind.
