We don't have the o-line to sustain this at all.

also I am pretty sure Bama has a talented roster with an OL that will make their QB look good. I am wary of Bama and Saban a little bit personally.

Agreed. At some point, Shanahan is going to need to realize that the league is heading in a direction where these scrambling QBs are going to be a necessity. Is there even such a thing as a "good" pass blocking line anymore? I know that we haven't seen one really since Garcia was on our team.

and even he was very mobile.
Can't believe we are in this mess again. Looking for a franchise quarterback is what we do best.

Along with 20-ish other teams in the NFL. True franchise QBs are difficult to find.

That's fair—and it is absolutely crushing

My pick for a back up, Notre Dame QB Ian Book 6'0" 206 pounds. Currently rated as a mid to late round pick, which is where I think the 9ers would draft a QB if they did.

What kills me is he chokes in the big game or the moment. He's got skills though, but the decision making is suspect
When evaluating QBs, remember that this is the gold standard. This is the archetype; the paragon of quarterbacking in Kyle's eyes. It's not just the arm talent, accuracy, leadership, TOUGHNESS, work ethic, the pro-style offense, etc. It's also the person. Kyle is HUGE on the people aspect of players. He doesn't just want good players, he wants good people, too.

Reminder: Kyle wanted Kirk Cousins so bad in the 2012 draft that he jumped on a table and refused to get off it until everyone in the Washington war room conceded they would draft Cousins. Hell, he said he wanted CJ because in some ways he reminded him of Kirk.

So, as we move forward with evaluating QBs, make sure you set your barometers accordingly when evaluating QBs.

you're correct...hopefully he expands his mind a little more. Maybe getting burned on not taking Mahomes resonates with him.

I feel like his WR type has changed a little

I'm starting to think that the 49ers not getting Kirk Cousins may have been one of the worst things that could happen to us. The team admitted the plan was always to get Kirk Cousins. Kyle liked Jimmy, but he didn't love Jimmy like he did Cousins. It was Lynch that convinced him that they didn't have anything to lose by trading a 2nd to NE. And when Jimmy played at an insane level in 2017, Kyle was forced to swallow his pride and accept the apparent reality that Jimmy was flat out better than his beloved Kirk Cousins. But for years, rumors have been circulating for years about Kyle's unhappiness with Jimmy, and now in 2020, Jimmy's play has fallen off a damn cliff compared to how he played in 2017. Is there anyone that doubts Kyle has regrets about choosing Jimmy over Kirk?

If the 49ers would have gotten Kirk, it would've been for the better because if the team found success with Kirk, that's great. But if the team failed with Kirk, it would've forced Kyle to open his eyes and move on from his obsession with Cousins. Maybe he even adjusts his QB profile and becomes more open-minded about these new-age mobile QBs.

Instead, Kyle is presumptively left longing for a QB he can't have anymore and regretting decisions he never really wanted to make.

He better have because the one he fell in love with and traded UP in the 3rd round to get, in the draft that had Mahomes and Watson, when we needed a QB (I know we was banking on Cousins at the time) was a MAJOR REACH at the time and looks like absolute trash.

Jones can throw deep with accuracy. Not so much with Garoppolo. Statue he may be, but he is the deepfield threat Jimmy G is not. *shrug*
