Alec Ingold, FB, Wisconsin

Preface this post with I don't think the 49ers are looking for a new fullback. But Juice is making a ton of money(top 10 RB $), which is okay now but a bad allocation of resources once guys like Buckner need to be paid. Moreover, Juice has suffered a disconcerting number of concussions in the last two years. Not sure how well he's going to hold up moving forward.

Alec Ingold may be someone they grab on day 3. They already met with him at the combine(he met with all 32 teams). Dude is a freaken hammer as a lead blocker; excels in pass protection; and most importantly--he can run and catch. The team also has a need for a short yardage back. I'm just saying.

Juice is not only the best FB in football, he's the only one who fits what Shanahan wants. He stays here as long as Shanahan is HC, cap number be damned.
Seems like quite a few visits with FBs. Are we moving on from Juice?
He is a hammer lead blocker and a good short yardage specialist. I've seen him play. He is good. I like his game.

Considering how important the FB we have is, and how few teams use them now, I feel like you could stash a pretty decent one the practice squad.

My guess is that's what they have in mind. Find a guy they like that they can get undrafted, keep him around and learning the offense for two years on the practice squad, and have a backup FB without using a roster spot.
Welp, this dude turned into the 2nd best fullback in the league. He reminds me a lot of a young Juice! I love Juice. In fact, I was the one who made the thread in the FA forum hoping that he's Kyle's first FA signing. But Juice is a free agent this offseason, going to be 30 years old next April and takes up way too much of the cap for a FB. 49ers should've signed Ingold when they had the chance.

Hero, get cooking on FB prospects for 2021
I enjoyed watching Ben Mason for Michigan earlier this season. He has played DT/LB/TE/FB, currently FB. Has won "Toughest Player" on the team twice already.

When I watched him he reminded me of a mini Quenton Nelson, finishing blocks and knowing where/who to hit.

It's surprisingly difficult to find a good fullback. There aren't many of them in college, and finding one that knows how to read and set up blocks, block, run routes and catch is difficult.
