No, no, no, not only do we need a guy who can take the top off defenses, we need a big, tall guy who can highpoint the ball in the red zone.
The burners you mentioned like Pettis and Goodwin are way too small and skinny. They just cannot perform that task. Simply put, we need a big outside WR.
Unless we are prepared to take 2 WRs, then it would be different. Speaking of which, there is the question of Deebo too.
But, since we don't have enough picks and if we can only afford to draft 1 WR, it will simply have to be a big outside WR.
Brown is plenty big. He may not take the top off like Metcalf but he'd be our Juju Schuster.
As of now... There is better talent than any reciever

6' 1" is big? That is borderline size.
Nah, I want that 6'3" and above guy who can create mismatches.
And I am not saying Metcalf is that guy, but there were a lot of 6'4"+ guys that we met, scouted and even invited for visits with guys like Poindexter, Ferguson, Butler and Hurd. Those would be my preferences, some of them can be had lower than the 36th pick too.

6'1 215-220 is big enough. Most corners are 5'10 you really don't need a guy of Shaq's size out there. Juju is 6'1 as well.

Risner then Hurd or Deebo would be awesome.
Just judging by film, I think Poindexter and Hurd look pretty good for big WRs. Both of them look very athletic and not the least awkward in their movements for such tall guys unlike some of the other guys like Ferguson and Butler.
I have mentioned this before, I cannot remember when was the last time the 9ers FO has met with, scouted and invited for visits so many 6'4"+ WRs. Think about it for a moment, 1 x 6'4" (Hurd), 2 x 6'5" (Poindexter and Ferguson) and 1 x 6'6" (Butler). It seemed to me the 9ers made a targeted effort in checking out this many big and tall WRs. So, I would be quite surprised if we didn't go after one and say just ended up with a 5'10" guy like Deebo instead.

I like Hurd a lot. Really could be a steal. I just think Risner is such a perfect solution to our guard/tackle issue so Butler won't be there in the 3rd.
OK, my final decision is as follows. The disclaimer remains I still believe DK Metcalf should at least be in the conversation. I have detailed my rationale in my latest post on the DK Metcalf thread. But, if the word is DK messed up on the interview with Lynch and Shanny and things got heated up and if the brain trust can't see beyond that, then just too bad. Either way I will post another clip of his here for people to take one last look at this guy's abilities:
Even if Metcalf is off the list, I will still pick someone with size. We just need another type of WR that can present a match-up nightmare and be a legit weapon in the red zone. I am not the only one who thinks that, but I have come across many analysts who have called for size too for the same reasons I have listed. Having looked at the film again, my final choice of WR will be Hakeem Butler:
If the 49er brass is worried about Metcalf and Butlers route running then I don't they will choose them based on height alone. I'd take Brown and go with a TE like Oliver (not necessarily Oliver) for red zone size later in the draft

I'm pounding the table to draft a WR in the second and heavy on offense overall this year.
When our D was good, we had a player that filled up the stat sheets. When our offense was great, we had a player who filled up the stat sheets. Until we acquired Ford and drafted Bosa, we had no player that could fill up the stat sheets. Our Defense should be very good now.
Our offense has never been good in the past umpteen years because we have never had a player that shows up on the stat sheet. We need a WR!!!
