2020 Draft Needs

2020 Draft Needs

With the depth of talent at WR in this years draft, I'd like to see them shoot for another WR. However, with Richburgs injury and the age of the OGs, a case can be made for IOL. However, secondary can always be upgraded.

The obvious move is to give up the 5th year option and trade down. Is there enough depth to move back and still get an immediate contributor on this stacked
roster?
Edge Rusher
O-line
Defensive Back
Linebacker
Since we only have a 1st and 2x 5ths, is the consensus that we trade down or try and get a good player at the end of the first round and then wait it out?
EDGE
OL
DB

This. I agree the BPA will most likely by a WR though.

My guess is the Niners will trade down from the late first to recoup 2-3 picks in the 2nd, late 3rd or early 4th. The Niners will definitely need to rebuild the offensive line up the middle first with the secondary as a close second in terms of need.
I think the smart move would be to trade down out of our first round pick(hopefully out of #32) to recoup some picks we lost.

I think OL or WR is our top need but DB is up there too.
We have to trade down honestly. We don't have enough draft capital to add the kind of talent a contending team should be looking for. This is what I look at when looking for keys on who we should target: I'd first look at which starting group struggled the most, and then I'd look at which depth was the poorest quality. SS and LB are the two areas of lowest quality depth on the team. DT isn't as bad but it's possible for an upgrade there too. DE wasn't initially, but it is now that all our depth suffered season-ending injuries. Our starting group at WR and interior OL struggled at times, and then our PR/KR game lacks explosiveness.

So, all that said, I see these as the top needs, in order:

1. Receiver - Even if Sanders returns, this is not a long-term investment. Ideally a real burner who can also return kicks.

2. Center - I think Brunskill will win the RG position. Eventually, him continuing to shine has to be recognized. We need a true center of the future though in case Richburg can't return to form.

3. LB - Our current depth is practice squad level at best.

4. SS - Same as above.

5. TE - We need someone who catch as well as they can maul guys on the LOS. Don't have anyone like that after Kittle.

6. DE - Preferably a speed rusher. A pass rush specialist who can help close out games.

Totally agree. This is NOT a year for BPA. We gotta recoup some pics, and WR is perhaps our most glaring need. I see a FA and a high draft pick at this position. I see this draft being heavy in need. I respect Todd McShay, but taking a RB with our first pick would be most bone-headed, especially given that we don't have another pick until the 5th round. I see us trading back to pick up some picks (I also see a sign 7 trade as a strong possibility, namely with AA). In any event, I see a WR as our top pick.

Todd did say he didn't think we would be drafting there.
Keep investing in the front line i.e oline and D line (edge rush in particular)!!

Agreed. I would draft Best DE with the 1st round to replace Ford in 2021. You have an extra 1st round talent rushing the passer in 2020 to go along with Boss and Ford, Moore.

5th round and up, I am refilling up the G and C positions. Hopefully create some depth and potential starters. Depth has been terrible on the o line.

I am looking to FA for WR and Safety. Re sign Sanders to a two year deal, Taylor and Hurd coming back(hopefully) and Deebo. We can add solid guy or two via Free agency that aren't rookies. We really need experienced guys at WR in 2020. 2021 go WR in the 1st round.

Safety depth is very bad. I would look to upgrade Ward with a solid FS in Free Agency(not sure who would be available, if you guys know let me know). Keep Ward as a backup.

I think we are solid at corner, but wouldn't mind adding a vet for depth.

Oh and we need a new damn kicker. I am very tired of Gould and having to hold my breath Everytime he kicks the ball. A good vet would work here.

Hopefully Skule or Brunskill can take over the LT position. That could buy us a year or two before we have to draft one.

We need to win this year and Next. Windows close fast and we have already seen that having a dominant pass rush is the key to a dominant team. Let's keep it that way by building on our strength and go DE 1st round

Not sure Edge will be that high of a priority when Blair and Damontre Moore get healthy.

For me it's Safety all the way.

To me, the draft is about balancing need and value. This is what distinguishes GMs who are great at the draft from those that a just good. As an example, picking a talented punter is the 4th is ok, but picking the same kicker in the 5th or 6th is better value.

Also, each draft class has strengths and weaknesses. Last year, DE was a strength. The Niners could have gone with another position I'm the 1st and drafted a "value" DE later. But, I'm glad they went with the premier DE at #2.

This year, OC/IOL is a need, no question. But, WR is reportedly a strength in this draft. Honestly, at this point I could go either way. It seems like very talented WRs fall into the 2nd and even the 3rd.

I think I favor a trade down to try to get both.
