The only reason they liked Smelter is because of his 11 inch hands.
At least JJ has good/great production

Smelter was one of the worst mid-round picks I've ever seen a GM make. I was literally SCREAMING for Baalke to take Diggs and just about lost my everloving mind when we took Smelter who at the time I didn't think should've been drafted.

Smelter came from a system where he ran virtually ZERO NFL routes. He was not very productive even with the system being considered, AND he was coming off a torn ACL that would make him a redshirt player for the coming season. It was a downright asinine selection, especially considering who was on the board at the time, and I'm still not over it.

Jennings may not be fast, but he has every other tool to help him possibly succeed. The drive, the physicality, the route knowledge, size, and durability. Hopefully his head is on right as he goes forward.

We picked Smelter over Stefon Diggs? 😭🤣🤣🤣 Oh man what a guy that Trent Baalke

I think you're going way into hyperbole with this. He got into something with someone at a graduation party when he was 17, acted like an idiot, later admitted to it, took the blame and moved on.

Jennings has neither been arrested nor formally charged. He does not turn 18 until next month, so he'd likely be charged as a juvenile should he face formal charges.

The report cited an affidavit of complaint filed in Wilson County.

Jennings pushed an Oakland High School student twice, "causing pain to his neck and back and placing him in fear for his safety," the student said, according to the complaint. As the student tried to leave the party, Jennings threw a rock that damaged the hood and windshield of the car and took a cell phone, jacket and arm brace from the vehicle, according to the complaint.

He got pulled over when he was 19 and cited with misdemeanor possession of pot after a police officer found a single baggie, the charge was later dismissed.

Beyond that, he got dumped by Hoke and Currie, two guys who themselves got dumped just weeks later. There was a pattern at the program where it wasn't just Jennings but several players criticizing both coaches and the admin for various issues. Was John Kelly being immature when he stated that he wanted the next coaching staff to be "honest?" Brett Kendrick playing with a concussion, all the issues that happened with Hurd. There were problems there brewing for a few years so was it immature for Jennings to go on Instagram and light people up? Absolutely. Was is it ridiculous to blame a 20 year old for that while ignoring all the f**kups that were happening under the watch of grown-ass adults like Hoke and Currie? All of a sudden after that Instagram video you had anonymous sources coming out of the woodwork, attacking Jennings as a bad teammate, a bad person period and alluding to all sorts of things coming out of left field. It was Baalke level stuff where they decided to dump everything on him and it still didn't end up saving their jobs.

Tennessee running back John Kelly wants the next coach of the Volunteers to be truthful.

As Tennessee prepares for its first game under interim coach Brady Hoke following the firing of Butch Jones, Kelly was asked what traits he was looking for in the Vols' next head coach.

"Somebody who's going to be honest," Kelly said. "Honesty, that's really just the most important thing to me."

Writers Trey Wallace and Oliver Connolly state Tennessee right tackle Brett Kendrick played with a concussion during for more than half of last Saturday's game with Kentucky. They have a couple of shots of Kendrick getting beat on plays on their website, and it is confirmed Kendrick has a concussion.

Hurd also alluded to the issues going on at Tennessee when asked about what was different at Baylor.

"They're straight up, so I respect that 100 percent," Hurd added. "They've been straight up with me since the day I stepped on this campus. That's what you want as a player, for someone to be straight up with you. They run a straight ship here, so I respect that."

Pruitt comes in, Fulmer is the AD and suddenly Jennings is a model teammate, a team leader and graduating on time. Did he have a full transformation or was part of the problem with the repeatedly fired Hoke and Currie?

If you want to talk real bad guys, look at people like Frank Clark who beat the hell out of a woman in a hotel room or Tyreek Hill who punched his pregnant girlfriend and tried to push her down the stairs. Thus far to me Jennings seems like a hothead that might be overly emotional and needs to get that under control but he's hardly some criminal mastermind. He's made mistakes and he needs to do better but I'm less worried about his character than dudes that are constantly getting into off the field issues, assaulting women....etc. Hopefully he grows in maturity and acts with more stability on and off the field and if he doesn't, then it is just a 7th rounder that you invested.

Thanks for saving me the typing.

I don't like the guy, but I do think he is an NFL player.

I don't think he is a very smart player, I also don't think he is super durable.

I don't think he runs great routs, and he is limited in when or....better...how he can get open.

What i hope we see out of him, is that contested catch percentage he had in college. He is a guy that is use to having a shorter wingspan and is use to playing with defenders on top of him. I think its that reliability that gives him an NFL future. There are not many 7th rounders that have his level of production. This was a steal of draft pick.

I am with you 100% on the Physicality..... I hope we see the guy on a lot of red zone plays.

I think the 49ers are going to know exactly what they have in him...really early on. This is not the type of guy that is going to have to adjust to the NFL....he was not a guy that ever created large amounts of separation, that will have to adapt to the "speed of the NFL", and since there are only so many Richard Shermans in the league, most days "his game" should work.

I expect he produces early on, if he struggles...he will likely always struggle.
Isn't it great that a 7th round pick is generating this amount of debate? Instead of being some throw away selection that would be either headed straight to the practice squad or just referred to as a "camp body", this kid actually has a chance to make this roster. Yes, he's SLOW. Yes, the game is even faster in the NFL. This kid makes contested catches, creates YAC, blocks like a madman, and can play special teams. Niners could add a decent contributor on a couple of different levels. Rooting for him.
I rewatched the Senior Bowl... anyone see the drop Jennings had?

What impressed me was just how physical he is getting off press coverage. I really think Trent Taylor's job could be in trouble if he's not 100% healthy.

RN I have slot rankings as:

1. Hurd
2. Taylor
3. Jennings

Not sure how you can have Hurd in front of Taylor when Hurd hasn't proved himself in the NFL. If all are healthy it should be

1. Taylor
2. Hurd
3. Jennings

Although I think our 3 WR set will be Samuel, Bourne, and Aiyuck.

at some point this season raw talent is going going to take over.

I really don't think Borne and Taylor are going to be able to keep Hurd, and maybe Jennings on the bench. I think the number 3 guy is going to be very fluid before to long.

Meanwhile, back at the farm, Kitty Kid has "a lot of speed" "great cuts" and "wiggles" but lacks the heart and soul to be an NFL receiver. The NFL willows out the quitters -- Glen Coffee, BassProShops Woods, Joe Williams, Kentwann "who should have been emBALMered"

Instead of getting a robotic QB to throw to him, or carry someone on a tire in the snow, Dante Pettis is creating memes with cats and light sabers.

Meanwhile, #84 is doing this:

My thing is that as tough as he may be, he's only 210lbs. In college, that's big for WR but in the NFL, it's really not.
Is he a Popeye's biscuit away from being a TE ?

I was really high on Smelter

We all were. Also, remember that dude from the CFL who was hyped up and got hurt in the preseason. Was on the Chip Kelly team. Eric Rogers.
