6'5-6'6" 253lb Senior Captain from Dayton deserves a thread based on his comment at the Senior Bowl alone. Dude said he rather put men on their backs than catch TDs. Also read some tweets about him looking and running better routes than wide receivers on 1st practice day. Someone to track this week. Sounds like someone to replace Celek/Toilolo and pair with Kittle

Interesting prospect. Good size and athleticism for the position, a former quarterback that has blossomed into a very good tight end.
✈️@DaytonFootball senior Adam Trautman went from being a QB coming into his freshman year to setting the school record for career receptions his senior year. Find out more about this week's @RetireMEDiQ Senior Spotlight. pic.twitter.com/1arlwPeOM6

Adam Trautman is one of the players I am most excited to watch at the @seniorbowl. He's a small school guy and moves really well. Also how about this throw!#WNSFilm pic.twitter.com/K5EJ2CfrnZ

The buzz I've heard so far has indicated there is virtually zero chance he falls beyond the 2nd round. If he continues to rise like this, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Patriots take him in the 1st with the hope that he can fill the void left by no Gronk.
He definitely checks all the "49ers prospect" boxes. Captain. Team player. Productive. Can do it all for your offense. Just an all-around terrific prospect.

He's not a 1st rd prospect. IMO He's not the best TE in the class (not really close)
Bryant
Kmet
Hopkins
Pinkney
Moss
are probably higher up than him and there might be others.

Whether we personally believe he's a 1st round caliber guy or not, his projected value according to reports is difficult to dispute at this point. Rob Rang ranks Trautman as his #2 TE in this class right now. He's being called the best FCS prospect in America by some, and multiple sources believe he could go as high as the first round. The majority I've read stamp him as a 2nd rounder, but again, a lot can change between now and draft day.
I haven't arrived on a firm, personal draft grade for him yet, but if he continues to shine among top competition this week, I'll have to boost that up bigtime. One reason for pause that comes to mind for me is: the last FCS prospect to get this much hype was Adam Sheehan from Ashland, and it hasn't worked out so well for the Bears, who took him in the 2nd.

CBS draft prospect rankings have him as the 152nd ranked player and 10th highest TE in this class. TDN has him as the 247th ranked player.
I loved his interview BUT he really didn't standout in drills yesterday from what I've read
I like his skill set/demeanor (from what little I've seen/read) BUT there's simply better overall TEs in this class that played a much higher level of competition for me to even think about him being a 1st or really 2nd rd pick. Senior bowl is great and it really helps a lot of these guys, but most of the top end talent are underclassmen. Hopefully he does well and can push his stock up, I like him, just not before the 3rd
we will see

Yeah, who knows? While I would not be shocked for him to make a meteoric rise, I also wouldn't be shocked to see him go even in the 4th round. While I've seen many project him -- again, it's WAAAAY early in the process -- as a potential 2nd rounder, he's obviously been given grades scattered all over the place, depending on who you ask. 2nd-4th seems like a nice, wide/safe projection at the moment. We'll see how he stacks up after this week + combine, etc.

Trautman has been on the NFL radar for over a year (here is my profile on him from September), and he was considered a top-75 pick entering this week. However, he has put himself in the top-50 conversation with his Senior Bowl week. Trautman showed he wasn't just a small-school standout who beat up on lower competition; he has legitimate NFL starting traits as a wide receiver and blocker.

CBS is absolutely worthless. Their rankings are dogs**t, hopelessly detached from reality. Once Rang and Brugler left, they dropped into WalterFootball territory. Most of the other sites don't update their rankings until after the Combine. Trautman will easily be an early 2nd to early 3rd rounder. He's got all the traits that teams are looking for in a modern TE.

Agree that Trautman is a day two pick, but one can always hope and wish he drops to the 5th. Adding him, Mims, and McFarland would, for me, complete our skill position roster on the offensive side

Agreed.
And as a draft geek you should know this by now NY.

So TDN is dogs**t as well? They have him ranked even lower. They also update their rankings quite a bit
Also I'm not saying he's getting drafted in the 5th rd or something. OTC was bringing up 1st rd talk and top 2 TE, I don't agree with that.

TDN is kind of all over the place. Their individual evaluations are fine but their overall rankings are kind of random and often slow to be updated.

To be fair, my "1st round talk" was not me saying I expected it, but if you look at the context of the statement, I commented on how I've read some talk of that. The second part of that was he would have to continue to do things to make himself rise, and then the third part where I mentioned the Patriots were a team I wouldn't be surprised to take him -- So to further clarify on that part, I said this because the Patriots have been known to sometimes reach a little for a guy they really want (recall they took Ben Watson in the 1st round, and he was also more projected as a 2nd rounder).
He's got a ways to go to make it into consideration there and FWIW, I certainly don't think he's there right now. I think he's a very good prospect, but 2nd round seems the most plausible area for him right now.
