Suprised he doesn't have a thread when we may be on the hunt for Wards replacement. 5'10" 205-210lbs, not the biggest, maybe not the fastest or most talked about, but for the term "football player" that our staff uses a lot, this guy might check that box more than any Safety in this class. Starts in the bloodline as his pops was a long time DB in the NFL and this redshirt sophomore team captain is all ball. Playmaker that just makes it happen all over the field and he would be a guy I'd bet to be high on our board if Ward leaves and if he's there at the bottom of day 1 top half of day 2. Reminds me a lot of Mathieu

Have the niners taking him in a trade down,,he's a ball hawk who also tackles well, would fit well on this defense.

Yeah Winfield is definitely the guy I'm hoping for if we lose Ward and trade down. I also like Davis but Winfield seems to have more of a Honey Badger type - all over the place, knack for finding the ball.
McKinney would be a dream at 31 if Ward wasn't signed but Winfield is Plan B via trade back. Wouldn't surprise me if he climbed up boards similar to Savage last year though. Seems like it's common for these type of safety prospects to climb into the bottom of the first.
Last year - Savage and Abraham
2018 - Terrell Edmunds
2017 - Jabrill Peppers
2016 - Keanu Neal
2015 - Damarious Randall
2014 - Deone Bucannon/Jimmie Ward
I think most of those guys were expected to go round 2 and maybe even later this time the respective years. All got into the first round.
Probably harder for Winfield to make that move this year with the other talent and the WR class being so deep but can easily see it happen again.

My issue with him is his speed and range to play single-high.
He's got great instincts you can line him up in man vs TEs, but I think he's more of a cover 2 safety then a single-high roaming the backfield type of FS.
Maybe I'm wrong

Love his film, wish he was 2" taller, but if he was he'd be way up the draft boards.

Throw in injuries as well. He's had two season ending injuries (hamstring/Lisfranc foot injury). Medicals will be big for him as well

He really is the perfect replacement for Jimmie Ward

Sooo smooth. Easily the best looking safety in the field drills

He might not turn out to be the best safety in the draft but will be in the league for 10+ years.
Would love to have him.

They were talking about him during the drills and agreed with what I said in that his play is Mathieu like

He's going to be the TJ Watt of DB's. In two or three years people will be like, "Of course, he's a great player."
