Two guys to look at as developmental prospects. Did a couple write-ups on them.

Outside CB: Reggie Robinson II, Tulsa (6-1 205 4.44)

Robinson finished top 5 in the nation in passes defensed. In what limited action I saw, he seemed to showcase decent instincts and played well in situations that allowed him to use his physical traits to his advantage, although he did seem to get a little grabby at times. Not being in the SEC, I venture to say he's relatively underrated, despite the top-flight production (17 PD, 4 INT, 1 TFL, 1 FR, 1 kick blocked -- he blocked a kick every year he played). While scouts knocked him for a lack of long speed, he ran quite well at the combine, notching a 4.44 forty. Overall, he's seen as best fit in a zone coverage scheme and I feel like there's an outside chance he could do something in the NFL if he can transfer over his ability as a playmaker from the college level.

Slot CB: Javaris Davis, Auburn (5-9 183 4.39)
Davis excels in man-to-man and is terrific fit for a slot corner. He will get knocked because of his size, but he has track speed and great quickness -- not to mention NFL bloodlines too, as he's the cousin of Vernon and Vontae Davis. His uncle, Keith Frazier was a former NFL player as well. I thought he showed up well in limited action at the Senior Bowl and raised his stock there. His size does limit his versatility, but the talent evident. 5th-7th round seems about par value, but the rising need for great slot corners and all the positives Davis' has could get him plucked a round sooner than that by a team that falls in love.

BTW AJ Terrell is now being rated as a likely 1st rounder now as well
Top 5 CBs
1. Jeff Okudah
2. CJ Henderson
3. Trevon Diggs
4. Kristian Fulton
5. AJ Terrell

They will likely be gone before the 49ers go up to the podium, although I have seen some mocks in which Fulton does drop to 31
Michael Ojemudia from Iowa is a guy to keep in on come day 3 of the draft.

He fits the profile and played in the same scheme.

6'1 200 lbs 4.45
Only 3 CBs had longer arms and only 5 had wider wingspans.
If we pick a CB or safety in this draft I hope we get someone who was productive in college instead of picking players based on their height and long arms. That hasn't worked out really well for us. We don't need another project. This is an area where we have been looking for quality starters for years just like we were at DE until last season. It seems like every guy we pick is a project or we get a free agent at the end of their career to fill a spot. It's time we get lucky here and find a couple of guys that can anchor that defensive backfield for a few years.

We really need some stability in the defensive backfield. I know there are always some injuries but I went back all the way to 1999 and we only had the same 4 players starting in back to back years one time. That was 2011-2012. I really believe that the D backs can only function well if they stay together for a little while, especially when playing zone. They really need to know when the other guys are there to take over when they leave a receiver so they don't get plays like that long pass to Hill in the SB. They need to trust the guys around them, maybe more than any other unit in football. We haven't had this in 20 years so every year we have to look at DB in the draft or free agency.
