Huh? I'm not talking about the importance of a 40 time, I'm talking about the importance of elite speed in Kyle's offense.

Oh, and:

This dude is faster than Bolt snag eem!!

Have you missed the impact Tyreek Hill has had on the Chiefs?

And before you bring up Mahomes' arm...Alex Smith would like a word with you.

That's because the Chiefs have a QB that scrambles around to keep plays alive and has one of the best arms in the league. Very few teams throw the ball deep effectively. it's by far the least accurate of all pass plays so they use it at the end of half or trying to play catch up. We've had several receivers over the years that have run sub 4.3 and not one has led the league in receptions.

This comparison doesn't really make anymore sense than saying "why would you ever draft a tall receiver? Jon Baldwin was crap after all" Or "who needs a QB with a big arm, Jim Druckenmiller sucked!"

If all things are equal, you'll take the bigger receiver each time. If all things are equal, you'll take the QB with a bigger arm, each time. If all things are equal, you'll take the faster receiver each time. What doesn't show up on the boxscore with a guy like Ruggs is how defenses have to approach playing him differently. He adds a new dimension to an offense in that you can't simply just creep up and sit on the underneath stuff, play press and be confident that you'll be fine. The speed that Ruggs provides terrifies defensive coordinators when it is combined with a tremendous skillset. One mistake and he can house it at any point in the game and that is always in the back of your mind.

The same is true for a guy like Hill. Was it a coincidence that Alex Smith had the best deep passing numbers of his career with Hill out there?

Not saying that Ruggs is Hill but you're only kidding yourself if you think that level of speed doesn't make a major difference in every aspect of an offense. It gives everyone else more room to operate, it forces defenses into stupid lapses, it gives the QB confidence that if they throw it far enough, that guy can go out there and get it.

And when you have a smart playcaller like an Andy Reid or a Sean McVay or a Kyle Shanahan that can fully exploit all that speed, it is even more devastating.
WRs are virtually never equal. Alot of nuances separate one from the other. Can't overfocus on speed,..for sure,...especially when neither of your choices are running a 4.7 anyway.

I have told this story several times over the years, but i went from a 4.62 down to a 4.47 during a 3 week summer camp that TRAINED on how to run the 40. It did not make me functionally faster.

Not sure why you're fixated on 40 time. Speed in game film is readily apparent and the Combine only serves as further confirmation. We're not talking about a case of someone who is realistically average but because they developed superior technique, look just a little faster in shorts on a track than what their game performance might indicate.

This is not speed that can be learned, this is pure filthy speed that is a natural gift that you either have or you don't. This is track speed AND football speed, if you can move this fast you are an elite subset of an elite subset of an already tiny number of human beings on Earth.

You're talking about a miniscule number of people who can already run this fast and now you throw in route running ability and hands and it goes well beyond just a guy who can run fast in a straight line.
Imagine the threat of Rugg on a bubble screen while Deebo and Kittle threaten crossing patterns. Defenses are going to look like they got an old-fashioned Western "hotfoot".

Now if you add in a third wideout, Sanders, starting on the other side and going deep over the middle on the same play, Jimmy G.'s main problem is going to be "which wide open guy do I throw it to?".
at 13 there are a bunch of player that could be drafted I would like an OL that can start at gard and move to center if needed if there one at pick 31 take him there. Trade down 2 or 3 spots and get an extra 3rd ? They could use a LB, like Kenneth Murray? a CB maybe CJ Henderson? A WR there to many to chose from? a OT to replace Staley after this year ? another edge rusher is never bad and he could replace Ford after next year. DT sure but I thinking later in draft.
If there is a Edge, LB or DB they really really like at 13 take him if not I would trade down to 17 ,18 ,or 19 get an second round pick for trade and draft Cesar Ruiz.

i assume you intended this for some one else, I have spent the last decade on this board saying 40 time is not the end all be all, half of the post you quoted was giving my first hand account with how i was coached to run the 40 and how it improved and had absolutely nothing to do with football or my relation to human beings that have combine documented 40 times.

I think I've decided on my wish list for #13:

1. Any one of the top 3 WR's
2. Chaission - I just don't trust Ford, and look how worse are defense was when Ford was not out there.
3. Brown or Kinlaw

I know it would be nice to get a top OT, but we are in Win Now mode, so need someone who can be a difference maker this year.

That's a good list, hello - I'm with you on the top 3 WR's. I would put Brown and Kinlaw as my #2. Then Chaission at #3.
Just wondering.... If Cleveland calls and said they'd trade OBJ to us for the #13 pick, would you do it???

I've answered this question a couple of times - yes, I'd do it.

I would be happy with option 1 and 3. I am not that impressed with Chaisson TBH. I think he is a reach at #13
